“What we’re finding with #PFAS is that there’s no one-size-fits-all.” How one community tackled the challenge with multiple treatment technologies: https://lnkd.in/gGTvWySD The Ayer Department of Public Works found its answer to PFAS via multiple adsorption technologies at two treatment plants. For the Grove Pond WTP, the answer was anion exchange. For the Spectacle Pond WTP, granular activated carbon proved to be more effective. The CDM Smith design team used bench-scale testing at our Bellevue Research and Testing Laboratory to pit technologies against each other in Ayer's unique circumstances, and worked closely with regulators to gain approval for the first AIX implementation in the state. When it comes to PFAS, “you really have to look at what the different options are with respect to your operations, your water quality, the expertise of your staff," said the town's DPW superintendent. PFAS regulation has grown ever more complicated. We work with communities around the US to find solutions. 🌱 The Greater Lawrence Sanitary District (GLSD) in North Andover, MA is transforming food waste into renewable energy! Their Organics to Energy Project supports a combined heat and power system, driving the plant toward net-zero operations. ⚡The same way we digest food and turn it into #energy, GLSD's advanced biogas production from food waste allows the facility to operate independently of the grid, potentially saving up to $2.5 million annually! 🌍 For over 40 years, GLSD and CDM Smith have partnered to protect the Merrimack River. Today, their collaboration sets a new standard in #sustainability, with GLSD's commitment to turning waste into power and leading the way in environmental stewardship. 🖥️ Watch the full video and read more on the revolutionary subject here: https://bit.ly/4c1GfQt #Sustainability #Innovation #CleanEnergy #GLSD

⚗️ How do you design a PFAS treatability study? https://bit.ly/4fae98K 💧 With water utilities dealing with PFAS contamination and the need to meet EPA's stringent Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs), the challenge of achieving safe drinking water is becoming more difficult. 💡 Charles Schaefer, CDM Smith’s Research and Testing Lab director, explains how rapid small-scale column tests enhance the effectiveness of PFAS treatment strategies by enabling researchers to achieve better decision-making in the initial phases. This can help clients in the strategy-making process, and their effectiveness allows researchers to confidently recommend strategies for further evaluation at pilot or full scale. 💭 "Treatability studies can employ various testing methods, ranging from simple batch tests to more sophisticated column tests or other bench-scale tools," Charles says. An important part of being on a team is feeling like you truly belong and are understood. 🫂❤️ We chatted with environmental scientist Julia Curran about how providing safe spaces for her team to feel seen, heard and respected is integral to her position as a leader at the #CDMSmith Australia office in Perth. “The freedom I have to express my identity in this way has instilled in me a sense of empathy for others and whether its family dynamics, race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or anything at all, I want everyone to feel empowered to express themselves however they wish to,” said Julia. Responsible leadership begins with creating an environment where teammates can be their best selves --our unique experiences and perspectives ultimately make for a stronger and more successful team. 🌟🤝 Learn more about Julia’s story and our commitment to inclusivity in a new #CulturalThreadsBlog at https://lnkd.in/e87vea8S. #leadership #inclusion
