Probably the most notable jumps came from retirement-related benefits (e.g., payroll deduction IRA, long term care insurance, financial planning, etc.) as more and more from the #babyboomer move closer to retirement. Training Trends - Comparing 2023 to 2024 and looking ahead: Leadership and Soft Skills consistently top the list, with increased focus on communication and teamwork. Technical skills and training are projected to grow in areas like automation and data analysis over the next 5 years. Optimistic Hiring Outlook - Companies are gearing up for growth: 75% of local companies expect to expand their workforce over the next 12 months, driven by business growth and the need to fill roles left by retirees. This nearly real-time scan continues to stand out as unique in the landscape, offering participants a leg-up when looking at how to best stay competitive in retaining or recruiting talent. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this survey a success and please make us aware (nhuret@catawbacountync.gov) if you did not receive the report in your inbox this week! #WorkforceDevelopment #EmployeeBenefits #HiringTrends #TrainingAndDevelopment #FutureOfWork #CatawbaCountyEDC

We were grateful to be joined yesterday by local elected officials, municipal staffs, economic development allies, and our EDC Board (Chair Frank Young, III AIF®, CPFA) for the Catawba County Economic Development Corp. Annual Meeting. Held in the newly-renovated Hickory Metro Convention Center (the place looked great 👏), this event highlighted our recent successes and future strategies. Scott Millar and Chris Schwinden (Site Selection Group, LLC) shared insightful analysis on positioning our County for future opportunities and ensuring our community continues to thrive. It was an informative meeting and a wonderful opportunity to thank our partners and allies. Thank you to all who attended, and special thanks again to Chris and his Site Selection Group colleagues (Dewey Evans & Ceci Grover) for their valuable contributions to the event and our roadmap ahead. #EDCAnnualMeeting #EconomicDevelopment #BusinessRecruitment #BusinessRetention #Roadmap

After a long time in the making, we are excited to announce that our EDC staff will be returning to our newly-renovated offices at the Hickory Metro Convention Center early next week! After a couple of days of furniture reassembly, unboxing chaos, and battling with technology, we should be up and running by July 24th 🤞. Thank you for your patience over these past several months as we worked to create an updated space to put our best face forward for Catawba County.

🇺🇸 We consider ourselves fortunate to work in the community we do, with the freedoms of the nation that we do. As we celebrate Independence Day, let's remember the words of John F. Kennedy: "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country." Our offices will be closed in observance of this most American of holidays. Enjoy a safe and happy Fourth of July! 🎆 #IndependenceDay #FourthOfJuly #Freedom #Community
