Our support for court-involved New Yorkers with mental illness doesn’t stay within the courtroom – CASES Court Services team provides mobile outreach and engagement to meet our clients wherever and whenever they need us. Every day, CASES peer specialists like Gabriel Madrigal meet with clients at shelters and street corners to connect them with the resources they need to engage in treatment and safely stay in the community before their trial. Donate to CASES before June 30. https://lnkd.in/er7Hbki3 #BreakingCyclesBuildingFutures #AlternativesToIncarceration #TreatmentNotJail #CourtServices #Pretrial #MentalHealth #SocialWork

Individual healing only works when families and communities are healing too. CASES offers a range of mental health services to youth and their families to prevent the lasting harm of early criminal legal system involvement. Today we're speaking out at the New York City Council to demand more community-based programs to support our young people, not more incarceration. #TreatmentNotJail #YouthDevelopment #FamilyTherapy #MentalHealth #AlternativesToIncarceration #RacialJustice #EconomicJustice

Donate to CASES by June 30! https://ow.ly/59nZ50Sp5s5 When other court-based social service offices close for the day, CASES is there to help. Brian Palmer is a CASES court navigator – a role we created to support clients who have been released from custody after regular court hours. He provides food & clothing, crisis intervention, transportation to support centers, shelters, and hospitals, and makes sure clients make it to their first post-release court appointments. Court navigators like Brian give our night court clients the foundation they need to stay out of jail and build a brighter future. There's only a few more days to give a tax-deductible gift to CASES. #Donate #BreakingCyclesBuildingFutures #CourtServices #Pretrial #MentalHealth #AlternativesToIncarceration

Every year, our Court Services team impacts thousands of New Yorkers facing criminal charges. Through their tireless advocacy and support, legally innocent community members are getting access to essential services and avoiding months or even years on Rikers Island, one of the nation's most notorious and deadly jails. Because of CASES Court Services, parents can be home to raise their children, students can stay in school, and employees can keep their jobs. This leads to stronger, safer communities for all of us. #BreakingCyclesBuildingFutures #TreatmentNotJail #CommunitiesNotCages #AlternativesToIncarceration #PretrialServices #SocialWork #PeerSupport

CASES staff are leading the way in conversations on mental health and the criminal legal system. Yesterday our very own Roger Porcelli and Sharon McClain spoke at a John Jay College (CUNY) conference on providing emergency psychiatric care to people in police custody. Roger and Sharon provided valuable insights from the perspective of those who have lived experience or are system-impacted. #MentalHealth #AlternativesToIncarceration #TreatmentNotJail

Last week CASES celebrated the success of our Planning Alternatives & Creating Community (PACC) program with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg and board member Julianna Teeple. PACC is an innovative intervention program that serves youth and young adults who have been arrested in NYC. The program is an alternative to traditional court approaches: instead of jail, PACC supports young people to address challenges, build skills and credentials, and make progress toward their goals, including employment. PACC was launched as a pilot within our Manhattan Supervised Release Program in 2022. So far, we've served 300 young people with CASES' evidence-based programs and services. PACC participants are more likely to complete their court requirements and less likely to be rearrested, and a quarter of participants volunteer to stay in the program post-mandate. Alternatives to jail and prison like PACC are cost-effective ways to support youth and increase community safety. Thank you to all of our partners and supporters who made this celebration possible.
