"I've had an incredible experience interning at Casa Cornelia Law Center. This summer, I interned with the asylum/litigation team and gained valuable experiences. With the support of Casa Cornelia's amazing staff, I've had opportunities to grow in my legal writing, gather research on country conditions, visit court hearings, and observe legal team meetings. I started law school with an interest in immigration, and my summer internship experience has reaffirmed my passion towards helping others through immigration law. As I enter my last year of law school, I feel excited to soon join the public interest sector and become a compassionate advocate for immigrant clients!" Tatiana P.

The fear of losing your baby or for your baby to suffer harm from health complications is a real danger faced by migrant women in immigration custody. As a law center that focuses on helping those applying for humanitarian-based legal protections, we are always concerned for the safety and welfare of those we represent. We hope that changes will be made to limit the time pregnant migrants are held in custody. https://lnkd.in/dJrA_Bjg

On July 11, 2024, Imani Drew from Congresswoman Sara Jacobs office, visited Casa Cornelia Law Center to learn more about our mission and work helping victims of human rights violations and how their office can support our efforts. Our Development Manager Cynthia Souza, along with Director of Philanthropy Mia Walter and Grants Manager Jennifer Medina provided a tour and overview of our programs. Our Executive Director Carmen Chavez and Legal Support and Strategy Director Anne Bautista, responded to the final question regarding what stories made the most impact on us. We chose to share the moment where the clients realized they are now safe and can move beyond merely existing- but finally live and plan for a brighter future free from persecution and abuse.
