Environmental Services

We are a climate technology company building a rapidly scalable biochar carbon removal solution.

About us

Plants draw down CO2 from the atmosphere via photosynthesis and solar power at unbeatable efficiency. We take waste biomass and transform it using our patented reactors, permanently storing the carbon in an inert, solid form called biochar. Our unique process produces high-quality biochar for agricultural and construction applications, generates renewable energy, and creates some of the most tangible carbon credits on the market.

There are several promising technologies for capturing #carbondioxide, from direct air capture to land-based solutions such as #biochar, #BECCs, to enhanced weathering, and #innovative ocean-based solutions such as ocean #alkalinisation enhancement and fertilisation. Kickstarting the GenZero Climate Summit 2024: Tech Forum was a panel discussion focused on “Carbon Removal Technologies: Air, Land and Sea – Is One Better than the Other?” which gathered industry leaders from across the ecosystem to unpack the various solutions and debate their respective pros and cons associated with each solution. #GenZero’s Investment Director, May Liew moderated the panel with Jonathan Goldberg CEO & Founder, Carbon Direct, Henrietta Moon, Co-founder & CEO, Carbo Culture, Gaurav N. Sant, Director, Institute for Carbon Management, University of California, Los Angeles & Founder, Equatic.tech, and Derek Willis, Vice President, Commercial Development, Occidental joining as panellists. Key #takeaways 📈 Scalability remains the biggest hurdle for #carbonremoval technologies. Challenges and opportunities are aplenty when it comes to scaling these technologies. These include the need for accelerated deployment at scale, proof of technological readiness, and managing large capital expenditure costs involved with these technologies. 🌿 There is still a fundamental lack of supply of carbon removal credits that are both affordable and of high-integrity. While the focus is often on the lack of demand, the current supply of these credits often come at a higher cost which can be prohibitive to buyers without greater incentives or guidance on the use of credits. 💼 Frameworks and incentives will go a long way. Policy #frameworks have a part to play as they support the deployment of carbon removal technologies, including government incentives, #regulatorysupport, and the role of #carbonpricing. There is a need for cohesive global policies and financial mechanisms to drive investment and deployment at the required scale. #FoodForThought: If you were given to invest US$1b into either air, land or sea-based carbon removal solutions to meet the 1.5 to 2 degree target by 2050, which would you invest in, and why? Let us know your comments below! #GenZeroClimateSummit2024 #GenZero #TheNextSteps #Ecosperity

At Carbo Culture, we believe permanence must be a prerequisite for carbon removal, as it is crucial to prevent the return of CO2 to our atmosphere. New research has proven biochar carbon removal is one of the safest and most permanent carbon dioxide removal (CDR) methods available. This article explains how we know that carbon will stay sequestered in our biochar. We will also answer questions like what is carbon removal permanence, how is the permanence of biochar carbon removal measured, and how long the carbon will remain sequestered? #biochar #BCR https://lnkd.in/dpif3iTp
