Fairfield Avenue Emergency Bridge Replacement in Norwalk, CT - Preview Splicing and cutting is underway!! Steel began arriving in Claremont, NH on Monday, June 17th and by Tuesday the 18th splicing began for the longer girders. As of this morning, Thursday the 20th, flanges are being cut from the first pieces of spliced material and getting us one step closer to having the first girder fully fabricated. Seeing this project taking shape in such a short period of time is astounding to say the least!

Our recent trip to the staging area of the Portal North Arches was a memorable experience, filled with many great pictures, it was hard only choosing a few. A small group of employees traveled to the temporary job site, where the first Arch, which we began fabricating in 2022, is now taking shape. Once completed, the entire structure will be transported on a barge down the Hudson River to its final destination in Kearny, NJ. In our industry, it’s often challenging to see the progress of our work, especially on large and complex projects with steep learning curves. Some days can feel overwhelming, making it seem like we’re not moving fast enough or that the project will never end. Today, however, offered a fresh perspective. Our employees were able to witness the fruits of their labor firsthand, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The pride in each team member was palpable. After learning about four young women from Lamoille County, VT winning the international Troitsky Bridge Building competition, an annual event at Concordia University in Montreal where students design and build model bridges out of popsicle sticks, toothpicks, white glue, and dental floss, we eagerly reached out to their instructor, Karsten Weiss to extend an invite for them to tour our facility and see how we build steel bridges. His enthusiastic response expanded the visit into a field trip for two school groups, including students from 8th to 12th grade. It was a pleasure hosting this group today, the next generation of America, who were intrigued by our fabrication processes and plant. They asked brilliant questions, inquired about the various roles at Canam, and showed a keen interest in the industry. We hope that one day they will help us build our bridges, but in the meantime, we wish them success in as many competitions as they can participate in.
