Calling all teachers and principals! The October 2nd school matinee for our upcoming production of 1939 is completely sold out. In response to the high demand, we have added a third school matinee performance on October 9th in addition to the previously scheduled performance on September 25th. 1939 follows the story of a group of Indigenous students at a fictional Residential School as they set out to put on a production of All's Well That Ends Well. Through the power of hope and resilience, the students make Shakespeare's bitter-sweet comedy defiantly their own. The content of the play is appropriate and suitable for students. We recommend the play for grades seven and above and we have a study guide available for teachers. Student tickets are $25 (plus taxes). For every ten student tickets sold, we are pleased to offer one complimentary ticket for teachers. Tickets are selling fast! Take advantage of the opportunity to see this essential work with your students. Curriculum connections include English, Indigenous languages, First Nations, Métis, & Inuit studies, the arts, social studies, Canadian & world studies, health & physical education, and social sciences & humanities. Global competencies include collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and learning to learn/self-awareness. Please contact Manuel Chaves (mchaves@canadianstage.com) for more information and to book tickets for you and your students.

Congratulations to Paul and Janice Sabourin on receiving the Creative City Champion Award, presented at the 2024 Canadian Stage Theatre Ball! "The thing I admire most about Paul and Janice is the humility with which they give. When they give, they make meaningful donations that are often catalytic or strategic for those organizations. And they give through thick and thin. They are there through the ups and downs." - Alexandra B., Canadian Stage Board Member & Past Chair. Congratulations to Philip Akin on receiving the Artistic Achievement Prize, presented at the 2024 Canadian Stage Theatre Ball! "One of the things that I really admire about Philip is that he's an artist of extraordinary integrity and honesty. And he brings that to his productions. There is an undeniable truth to what he puts onto the stage. We've had the good fortune at Canadian Stage to be a part of that." - Brendan Healy, M.M., Artistic Director, Canadian Stage Photos by Philip Maglieri
