Really like what the folks at Campowerment are doing. The upcoming virtual event for female leaders in talent, DEI and HR on April 4 is perfect to get an idea of their offering and focus. I've seen a lot of "training" companies, trust me...this one has some real magic to share. Let me know if you're interested in attending the April 4th invite only event. I can send you details. https://campowerment.com/

Not a lot of rules at Campowerment, but there's always at least one to level the playing field. At Classic Camps for women, it's the 24-Hour Rule: No saying what you do for a living for the first 24 hours, so campers can connect around who they are, above and beyond their titles. At custom retreats for organizations, we custom-propose a rule to switch up the input >> shift the output. So, no traffic, no weather, no small talk, no -- whatever else is the default. We instead propose new rules of engagement, and then we watch our clients' "campers" grow from there!
I don't like rules. BUT when we hosted Campowerment's first women's retreat, we made one, The 24-Hour Rule: No saying what you do for a living for the first 24 hours of our women's retreats. We made that rule -- and took it seriously -- because we didn't want Campowerment to be a place where we show up the way we always do. Because while, in the best of cases, how we spend so much of our time DOES really matter (to us and others); it is NEVER all of who we are. And what shows up when that space isn't taken up by a title that's relative to someone or something else...THAT's where all we need to know next lives. What rule do you wish were in place in a space YOU love, such that, should it exist, you'd get to show up more...YOU?!

Channeling the motivation last week's Strategic Planning meeting inspired in Stephanie Gilbert, a board member we are lucky to call our own...as we're back to the grind, with brilliant insights from advisors and colleagues we cherish. In 2015, a friend who happens to be a Hollywood actress (Cosby Show, Lethal Weapon movie) invited me to join her in attending a long weekend retreat for women who’d bitten off more they could chew (or, more importantly, has decided to chew less, play more), and wanted an anonymous retreat to cocoon, and to reignite the flame. Oprah had just gone to the retreat, and had raved about it her magazine. Anything my friend asked me to do was okay by my, so off we went. One thing: this was a sleep away camp for grown women which mimicked the childhood overnight camps of our yesteryear (cabins etc), but with Master-class level experts and transformative coaching. And we weren’t allowed to tell anyone what we did for a living. Your career needed to remain anonymous. Brilliant! I won’t belabor the story. Suffice it to say, we left ‘emerged’. Many ‘campfires’ later and following an authentically special relationship I’d developed with Campowerment’s CEO, Tammi Leader Fuller (now a cherished friend), I’ve spent two years on their Board of Directors, a position which enriches my spirit and challenges my skill-set. Completely ‘sold’ on camp as a transformative experience for women who….(insert your own narrative), I believe each camp speaks to a unique need and leaves each woman transformed. My fellow board members are dynamic, powerful, insightful, and most importantly, open-minded. And EVERY board member has an actionable responsibility for new business development, because camp isn’t all fun and games for ANYone. Bunkmates leave no-one behind. Our virtual ‘dinner parties’ aren’t just play. If you happen to make our curated and much-sought-after invitee list (an exercise we undertake to identify our market strategy), know that we are looking to connect the connectors - the most powerful people in the universe. This week, we met to dissect the business, to deconstruct the collateral, to embrace the spirit of the client-base, to truthfully examine DEI&B (tough work), and to genuinely reflect (even in the uncomfortable space with open hearts and contemplative minds). I’m so full! Being part of this community of thought-leaders who are transforming the way individuals and corporations approach ignition is awe-inspiring. Come play!
