Grandma's Marathon was amazing! This year marked our first year as a charity partner with Grandma’s Marathon. We had 60 runners on our team, and we raised an incredible $39,000! It was a chilly and rainy day in Duluth, perfect for running! What a great day, filled with cheering, smiles, and high-fives. Thank you to our runners who helped make this possible. Learn more about our runners here: https://lnkd.in/gQf_FZZr We're also participating in the TC Marathon and 10 Mile this October in St. Paul! We travel to Washington, D.C., almost every month of the year. These trips are critical to our work as we make the case for protecting the Boundary Waters on Capitol Hill. We work with Congress and defend the Boundary Waters against the onslaught of attacks that threaten to harm the Wilderness. Recently, northeastern Minnesota’s own Rep. Stauber successfully passed reprehensible legislation that would overturn our recent Boundary Waters protections - opening up the entire watershed to toxic copper mining. 😡 These harmful pieces of legislation are now making their way to the Senate. We need you to contact your Senators now and make sure they say no to these terrible pieces of legislation that would irrevocably harm the entire watershed of the Boundary Waters. Take Action: https://lnkd.in/gy6EkNdt

This week, we defeated 4 out of 5 anti-Boundary Waters amendments that Rep. Pete Stauber attempted to attach to a “must pass” bill (the National Defense Authorization Act). One of these amendments would have overturned the Boundary Waters watershed mining ban put in place just last year. Now, let’s finish the job. The remaining amendment (1049) and Rep. Stauber’s full bill (H.R. 3195) still pose a threat. Please contact your Senators and urge them to oppose these measures. Together, we can protect the Boundary Waters for future generations! This year, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, which protected the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and hundreds of other pristine areas in our country. "Now it's 2024, and the issue is mining along the BWCAW's southern border, which opponents say — correctly — threatens the wilderness's clean water and pristine nature." Check out this excellent piece in the Star Tribune from outdoors columnist Dennis Anderson: https://lnkd.in/gAF64Sps

Excellent commentary by Becky Rom of Ely, MN—the fate of the Boundary Waters is on the ballot this November. We cannot reverse the progress we've made to protect this unique canoe country. We must protect the Boundary Waters for future generations. https://lnkd.in/ghrznVuX

Powerful piece from the Star Tribune Editorial Board! Rep. Stauber aggressively seeks to force sulfide-ore copper mining upstream of the Boundary Waters. Just last week, Stauber's bill 3195 passed the House, which would overturn last year's 20-year mining ban near the Wilderness. "While I'm disappointed to see this bill pass the House, I'm going to do everything I can to organize my Senate colleagues against this legislation and protect the Boundary Waters." - Senator Tina Smith https://lnkd.in/gu7W2Nxm
