    Ever wondered how multi-layer twisted wire structures distribute within their layers? The latest findings from a scientific study published on nature.com bring some enlightening insights based on coal mining machinery. Citation: Zhao, L., Zhang, T., Gu, J. et al. N-level complex helical structure modeling method. Sci Rep 14, 18549 (2024). Three main distributions of twisted wires have been observed: 1️⃣ In-layer tangency - wherein twisted wires within the layer are tangential to each other. 2️⃣ Inter-layer tangency - it occurs when each twisted wire is tangential to the outer circle of the previous layer. 3️⃣ Compression Deformation - mutual compression within a layer leads to the deformation of the insulation part. The research interestingly shows that the twisting radius of one layer is equal to the radius of the previous layer's outer envelope circle ➕ the wire radius of the current layer. But there's more: To accommodate braided wires arranged side by side, scientists suggest the transformation of the traditional rose curve into a modified one. How? By replacing the sine function in the rose curve with a piecewise function of sine and circular arc, or by replacing the circle with an ellipse. This complex layer magic ensures a certain width at the peaks of the rose curve. Stunning, isn't it?
