About us
The Business for Climate Finance Initiative (BCF) brings together businesses and investors to increase private sector investment in the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future. This initiative aims to mobilize private capital towards projects and activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience against the impacts of climate change, and contribute to sustainable development. BCF was launched with two goals in mind: to assess and disclose the climate impact of corporate cash deposits and retirement funds and to decarbonize bank accounts and employee retirement plans starting with a group of leading U.S. companies. It provides a platform for businesses and investors to collaborate and advocate for changes that will create a favorable investment climate for climate finance. This initiative also works to raise awareness and understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the industry and provides a network for knowledge-sharing and capacity-building. Tackling the Climate Data Challenges toward More Sustainable Finance A new CFA Institute report highlights the significant obstacles in obtaining reliable climate-related data for investment analysis. Nearly half of the members surveyed cited poor corporate disclosures as a major barrier. Why This Matters: Investors need accurate, comprehensive climate data to assess risks and opportunities effectively. Without reliable data, making informed decisions to support the transition to a low-carbon economy is challenging. This impacts investment returns and global efforts to mitigate climate change. Key Data Challenges: Company-Level Issues: Limited resources for quality emissions data. Third-Party Providers: Inconsistent calculations and methodologies. ESG Ratings: Often fail to capture decarbonization efforts. Scope 3 (Financed) Emissions: Most emissions for many industries require complex estimations. While it is the most significant part of financial firms' carbon footprint, it is difficult to measure. Regulatory Efforts: While regulations such as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS 9 ) aim to standardize disclosures, comparability issues may persist due to varying definitions and requirements. Our Role: Impact Experience's Business Climate Finance initiative advocates for measuring and disclosing emissions from finance, enhancing data quality to support smarter corporate climate finance strategies. Collaborate with us to improve data integrity and align financial decisions with positive climate impacts - delivering returns and emissions reductions. #ClimateRisk #ESG #Finance
