On June 27th, the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed a case which threatened to undermine the protections provided by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), including for pregnant people who may need emergency abortion care. While the decision is not a clear victory, it does offer a temporary sigh of relief for people in Idaho. Still, in states with abortion bans or restrictions in place, as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote, “pregnant people experiencing emergency medical conditions remain in a precarious position.” We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again - abortion is healthcare, and healthcare is a human right. Bumble was proud to stand alongside Levi’s, Match Group, Lyft, Yelp, the Women’s Chamber’s Chamber of Commerce and others to submit an amicus brief in the Moyle case, arguing that reproductive healthcare restrictions are bad for the economy and bad for business. While this brief provided a perspective from businesses, the reality is an overwhelming majority (86%) of people* support protecting access to abortion related emergencies. In the midst of what feels like sustained attacks on women’s rights, we remain steadfast in our support of an individual’s right to make their own reproductive choices. When your ability to choose if, when, and how to have children is taken away, so is your bodily autonomy. This could not be more true than when pregnant people face medical emergencies. At Bumble, we believe in the right to choose, and to exercise control over our bodies. The safety, privacy, and freedom of family planning are critical to equality for all — and that includes equitable access to abortion care. We will continue to speak out—and speak loudly—against the retrogression of women’s rights. 💛 https://lnkd.in/gczizeqf *https://lnkd.in/eynwpm6s

Today, Bumble. Inc is pleased to announce that we have joined the Center for Democracy & Technology's working group to address the creation, spread and monetization of non-consensual intimate images (NCII) - including AI-generated content. As a company rooted in kindness, respect, and online accountability, we believe in working collaboratively with our industry partners to tackle issues such as NCII. We care very deeply about providing our community with the tools they  need to feel empowered online, which includes control over their private images. This move will see us come together with representatives from technology companies, trust and safety practitioners, experts in online gender based violence, organisations representing impacted communities and organisations focused on digital rights in a safe, shared setting to discuss meaningful intervention points. This is an extension of our work in this space, having previously announced our partnership with StopNCII.org, a free tool designed to support victims of Non-Consensual Intimate Image (NCII) abuse. When someone is concerned their intimate images have/might be posted to participating online platforms, they can create a case through StopNCII.org to proactively detect them. With more of our lives spent online, non-consensual image abuse is a growing issue that like other forms of sexual harassment, disproportionately targets and impacts women. We have, and always will be, committed to joining conversations and partnerships that tackle these issues head on. https://lnkd.in/ezvfXAJa

In April, we put out a call to our Bumble couples to share their love stories and enter a contest to get married (or renew their vows) in our Little Yellow Wedding Chapel — a Bumble takeover of the iconic Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. 💒💛 Out of 1,200 entries, 33 Bumble success story couples and their loved ones from across the U.S. and Canada made the journey to Vegas for the big event earlier this month. Along with celebrating their nuptials, we treated them to flights, transportation, accommodations, hair and makeup, a clothing stipend, a welcome gift, a post-ceremony photoshoot, a custom Bumble cake, and a super fun welcome reception so they could meet each other. The heartfelt vows (many of which included Bumble), happy tears, and cheers from witnesses made for an incredibly memorable wedding day. On behalf of everyone at Bumble Inc., we wish all of our couples a happy, healthy future together and continued good vibes. 🥂 #ItStartedWithBumble #LittleYellowWeddingChapel #Bumble

We're proud of our Chief People Officer David Ard and stand in unwavering support of our LGBTQ+ community this month and every month. #prideatbumble #pridemonth

Chief People Officer, Board Member, LGBTQ+ Leader

This Pride is particularly special for me — my first as Bumble Inc.'s Chief People Officer. I’ve had the honor of kicking off the month of celebrations, leading community events with our Pride @ Bumble Employee Resource Group, and speaking with the media (thank you, CNBC) about openly leading at work. As I reflect on my own life and career journey, it’s the learning and the progress that I celebrate this year for Pride. I also can’t overlook the issues & hostility presently facing our LGBTQ+ community. Many in our LGBTQ+ community experience shame, humiliation, discrimination, and a lack of support and protection both at work and at home. Our Transgender community, in particular, still faces daily threats of retribution and backlash. Fellow allies: please speak up and stand up for your beliefs, for your friends, and for your colleagues. Your voice and your actions in support of human rights and equal protections are needed now more than ever. It’s just not complicated or controversial to stand up for equality. Companies have an important role in setting the example of doing well and doing good. The work we do can have an extraordinary impact on our self-worth, so couple that with the feeling of being supported (or not) by your employer and colleagues for just being who you are. Trust that when employees don’t feel respected and protected, you’re not getting the best of what they have to offer and that’s a loss for everyone. I’m proud to work for Bumble as we celebrate all of our employee communities year round. And for our LGBTQ+ community specifically, it’s not just about adding Pride-themed swag or joining parades (though we certainly do these things) – it’s about the tangible benefits: showing up for our employees and working together to disrupt the systems that prevent progress so that everyone can move forward together. At Bumble, we prioritize the emotional and physical well-being of our employees through comprehensive healthcare benefits, mental health support, and inclusive policies that protect and uplift our whole community. We also offer gender-affirming healthcare coverage, and continuous education on LGBTQ+ issues to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment. In our Bumble app, we worked with GLAAD to help ensure our LGBTQ+ community can more authentically, openly, and safely express who they are and find the connections they’re looking for. As part of this, nonbinary people and people with same gender-connections can now set and respond to an Opening Move, ensuring a more inclusive and empowering experience for our users. We also have a partnership with Trans Lifeline to support their mission of connecting transgender and nonbinary people in North America to lifesaving resources and educating our employees on how best to support this community. Thank you for the support. #Pride2024 #LoveWins #BumblePride

To our beloved Bumble Community: We made a mistake. Our ads referencing celibacy were an attempt to lean into a community frustrated by modern dating, and instead of bringing joy and humor, we unintentionally did the opposite. Some of the perspectives we heard were: from those who shared that celibacy is the only answer when reproductive rights are continuously restricted; from others for whom celibacy is a choice, one that we respect; and from the asexual community, for whom celibacy can have a particular meaning and importance, which should not be diminished. We are also aware that for many, celibacy may be brought on by harm or trauma. For years, Bumble has passionately stood up for women and marginalized communities, and their right to fully exercise personal choice. We didn't live up to these values with this campaign and we apologize for the harm it caused. So, here's what we're doing: We're removing these ads from our global marketing campaign. Bumble will be making a donation to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, among other organizations, as a part of our ongoing efforts to support the work being done around the world to support women, marginalized communities, and those impacted by abuse. We will also be offering these partners this billboard space to display an ad of their choice for the duration of our reserved billboard time. Please keep speaking up and telling us how we can be better. We care about you and will always be here for you. With love and sincere appreciation, Bumble 💛

With Opening Moves, they can set a question for their matches to answer, sparking engaging conversations while staying firmly in the driver's seat. Why the change? Our recent research shows that while 92% of women state equality as a top priority in romance, almost 9 in 10 say that equality is all about personal choice and autonomy to decide what’s right for you. For non-binary and same-gender connections, either person can set and respond to an Opening Move. 💛 Fresh Look and Feel: Say hello to our updated brand identity! Led by our talented in-house Creative Studio, expect to see a new logo, bold fonts, and vibrant colors and illustrations. 💛 Enhanced Dating Intentions: We've expanded our Dating Intentions badges so you can better express what you're looking for. Whether it's casual dates, a life partner, or anything in between, you can now select up to two intentions to showcase on your profile. 💛 Improved AI-Driven Compatibility Feature: Finding your perfect match just got easier. Our profiles now highlight common interests and shared top artists upfront, making it simpler to identify mutual connections. Plus, our sophisticated “For You” algorithm has been enhanced to deliver curated profiles tailored to your preferences and past matches. Our mission to foster meaningful, healthy connections across our entire portfolio remains strong, and we will always listen to feedback and come up with solutions that reflect the diverse needs of our community. 🫶 And we’re not done yet. Since 2018, Bumble has been working with lawmakers in the U.S., U.K., and European Union (EU) to help put a stop to cyberflashing—that is, the unsolicited sending of lewd images via social media and messaging apps. The sharing of these photos without consent is a form of sexual harassment, and women have been clear: 96% said they don’t want to receive them. Over the past six years, our work has helped secure the passage of new laws deterring this digital indecent exposure in our home state of Texas as well as in Virginia and California. We’ve also introduced bills in Maryland, Michigan, New York, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin, and supported the amendments of EU and U.K. legislation to include cyberflashing bans. Today, women face heightened abuse online thanks to the proliferation of artificial intelligence (A.I.), including sexually-explicit deep fakes and manipulated images. To help combat this growing threat, Bumble has joined forces with Representatives Jennifer McClellan (D-VA-04) and Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01), and Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Steve Daines (R-MT) to help introduce and support the bipartisan CONSENT Act, the first-ever federal cyberflashing bill in the U.S. If passed, The CONSENT Act will provide a private right of action for recipients of lewd images, including those altered by A.I., across the U.S. Now, we’re calling on our community to support the passage of this bill by reaching out to your representatives and letting them know you’d appreciate their commitment. Use the message on our blog at the link in the comments to write to your Congressperson.
