The EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) are bringing new attention to the governance of sustainability within organizations. A pragmatic approach to compliance with these complementary laws can deliver true transformational change. BSR’s Anna Zubets-Anderson, ACC, CPA, LMSW, Alison Berthet, Paloma Muñoz Quick, and Beth Richmond discuss synergies between CSRD and CSDDD and identify five questions businesses must address to ensure a coherent approach to compliance that delivers on companies’ sustainability ambitions with both. BSR’s multidisciplinary team takes a holistic approach to CSRD and CSDDD compliance strategies, helping companies to develop approaches that are aligned and integrated across the value chain. If you’d like further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out at web@bsr.org. #sustainabilityreporting #CSRD #CSDDD #Compliance #regulatoryaffairs

As a partner of the Science Based Targets Network, BSR is pleased to announce the main 2024 release of new and updated guidance for companies to set science-based targets for nature, informed by SBTN’s trailblazing cohort of pilot companies: https://lnkd.in/gSzA6Yb9. This guidance enhances the feasibility and practicality of SBTN’s methods while maintaining ambition and scientific rigor. New resources to improve accessibility and drive action have also been introduced, including a comprehensive corporate manual that serves as an entry-point into the technical guidance. SBTN’s target validation pilot has highlighted key benefits of target-setting and reinforced that SBTN is closing a critical gap in corporate sustainability, including: 🌟 Increases ambition and drives science-based action on nature 🤝 Provides credibility and a common language to advance engagement with stakeholders 🧭 Acts as a trusted compass for companies to get to the right solutions Stay tuned for more updates from SBTN in September, where they'll share key outcomes and lessons learned to pave the way for the next generation of targets. In the meantime, BSR is happy to support our members in any #SBTN related topics and questions on the updated methods, as a key partner of SBTN and co-developer of the Self-Assessment Tool for Steps 1&2! BSR's Global Lead, Human Trafficking and Forced Labor Claudio Formisano highlights Tech Against Trafficking's leadership in the field, as showcased once again in this year's Trafficking in Persons Report issued by the U.S. Department of State. #supplychainmanagement #bizhumanrights #sustainablebusiness #supplychains
For the second year in a row, the U.S. Department of State Trafficking in Persons Report has made reference to our BSR led collaborative initiative Tech Against Trafficking, which I have the privilege to lead alongside a fantastic team of experts. I welcome this year's report focus on the role of #digitaltechnology, in particular the emphasis on data privacy and protection. The Accelerator program has taken us to support world leading anti-trafficking organizations such as Unseen UK IOM - UN Migration Polaris (formerly Polaris Project) to share data responsibly by preserving the privacy of victims. You can read more about such impact here https://shorturl.at/w0Yu8 Our research mentioned in the report has mapped over 300 tools to address modern slavery. As the business and human rights field gets more refined in creating digital solutions to unveil #forcedlabor in global supply chains, we look forward to updating our research and capture how the market has evolved in recent years. Stay tuned! #tech4good #sustainability Phil Bennett Darren Edge Leigh Anne DeWine Darren Edge Shubha C. Natalie Volin Lehr Lale Tekişalp Taylor Hannegan, Esq. Alice Pease Jiajia Chen Laura D.

Sustainability teams are facing numerous internal hurdles as they work towards advancing an energy transition that is just, fair, and inclusive. While this push has been gaining recognition and is increasingly on the agenda of multilateral organizations and governments with growing expectations for business, practitioners are struggling to understand how to initiate just transition efforts and get the right people engaged. Drawn from experience working with those who are navigating these challenges, BSR’s Ouida Chichester, Cameron Steagall, and Andrey Pertsov share four lessons on how to advance a just transition inside a company. For guidance on planning for a just transition within your company, check out BSR’s Just Transition Planning Toolkit (https://lnkd.in/e7wthB4T). or reach out to us at web@bsr.org. #regulatoryaffairs #sustainablebusiness #justtransition #cleanenergy

Can Financial Institutions (FIs) play a role in safeguarding sensitive customer and user data without exposing themselves to financially-material risks?: https://lnkd.in/e4vH46F5 Recent rollbacks in state-level policies protecting abortion and LGBTQI+ rights are the latest examples of growing tensions across this US. This destabilized and fractured legal landscape poses human rights dilemmas for consumer banks, fintech platforms, and credit card issuers seeking to comply with the law while operating responsibly. BSR Director, Human Rights Standards Paloma Muñoz Quick and BSR Manager, Technology Sectors Ife Ogunleye offer guidance for FIs as they manage their approach to legal compliance in ways that respect abortion and LGBTQI+ rights to the greatest extent possible, in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). #sustainablefinance #financialservices #bizhumanrights #sustainablebusiness #humanresources #DEI

China released its national ESG reporting guidelines earlier this year to promote sustainable development and meet global standards for large companies by 2026. This includes but is not limited to those with domestic stock indexes and those listed overseas, representing 59 percent of China's stock market value. For companies operating in China, adhering to these regulations is necessary for mitigating risks, improving transparency, fostering stakeholder trust, and unlocking sustainable growth opportunities. Lin Wang, Can Paris Z., and Olivia LI discuss the business implications of China’s new ESG guidelines and identify four key steps to maximize potential in this evolving landscape. #sustainabilityreporting #regulatoryaffairs #regulatorycompliance #ESG
