This is big. Brimstone was selected for a transformational $189 million investment by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Industrial Demonstration Program. No one knows more about decarbonizing our economy, or about what it will take to achieve global impact than DOE. By backing Brimstone’s commercial demonstration plant, the DOE has offered jet fuel to accelerate our scale-up and path to market. Since Day One, we’ve believed that decarbonizing cement requires developing a product identical to the industry-standard portland cement that builders everywhere know and trust. The process would need to be extremely low-carbon, and cost-competitive at full scale. DOE’s investment in Brimstone is a powerful validation of this approach and our work. After a highly competitive process, we’re thrilled to be among the 33 companies chosen to be part of the largest industrial decarbonization effort in U.S. history, one that will create clean jobs, transform sectors, and help spur an American-led clean industrial revolution. Let’s build. Decarbonizing cement—without changing the product or price
About us
Brimstone is on a mission to decarbonize the cement industry, which today is responsible for 7.5% of carbon emissions annually. Founded in 2019, Brimstone developed a breakthrough decarbonized process to produce the same ordinary portland cement and supplementary cementitious materials used today. These materials have the same quality and performance builders have trusted for decades — now with a positive climate impact.

Honored to be recognized by the World Economic Forum First Movers Coalition. Heating limestone accounts for 60% of cement’s carbon emissions. Our process replaces limestone with carbon-free calcium silicate rocks. Different process and materials, same final product – ordinary portland cement.
Cement and concrete production generates 7-8% of global CO2 #emissions. These innovators are working to reduce that. Our CEO Cody Finke, Ph.D. had an incredible week at #BESummit24 in London presenting on decarbonizing heavy industry and the future of net zero construction. He got to catch up with fellow concrete decarbonizer Robert Niven, CEO of CarbonCure Technologies. Prince William, who created the The Earthshot Prize, called attention to the pivotal role of innovators and entrepreneurs in tackling climate change. And Bill Gates reflected that the clean industrial revolution is here. Brimstone is proud to be part of it!

From ropes courses and bonfires to deep work sessions, we had a blast at our annual company offsite in beautiful Santa Rosa, CA! Brimstone employees gathered for a few days of sunshine, sports and team bonding. We’re on a mission to deeply decarbonize the built world, starting with cement and concrete - the second-most consumed material on earth. If you're feeling the pull to make a massive impact as a company and teammate, we’re hiring! https://lnkd.in/e5K2wYYt

Brimstone is growing, and we're happy to announce the expansion of our headquarters, R&D lab, and demonstration space in Oakland. We're expanding our facility by 5,000 square feet—an important step to scale and further de-risk our decarbonized cement process. This new space will support an increasing scope of work as we move toward building larger-scale plants, including a plant in Nevada, a commercial demonstration plant, and, ultimately, full-scale industrial plants. Our facility will not only enhance process refinement, testing, and cement production, but will also serve as a climate innovation hub. We look forward to hosting more school groups, policymakers, and visitors interested in our approach to decarbonizing cement. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e4vR8EYJ P.S. We're also growing our team! Congratulations to Will Nguyen, PhD, PE, Brimstone's Cement and SCM Engineering Manager, on being named a 2024 ASTM Emerging Professional by ASTM International! For over a century, ASTM International has established over 12,000 global standards for products, including building materials like cement. Last year, a third-party lab verified that Brimstone's decarbonized cement meets ASTM C150 standards for ordinary portland cement (OPC), the cement used in virtually all construction today. As an Emerging Professional, Will will deepen his involvement with the ASTM program, serving on committees CO1 for cement and CO9 for concrete and concrete aggregates. This summer, you can see Will present about Brimstone at ASTM's "Workshop on Next Generation Cements and SCMs: Towards Specification" during the June ASTM Committee Week in Philadelphia. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/euYrBew2 Brimstone is thrilled to continue supporting ASTM and its important work in standards development.

During this Earth week TIME TIME CO2 Shyla Raghav honored so many incredible individuals that have dedicated part of their lives to fight #climatechange. Representing all of us at Brimstone I was given the chance to attend the 2024 #TimeEarthAwards and #TIME100Summit this week, and I was inspired by… Jane Fonda who has led by example, leaving her comfort zone decades ago, saying “it’s our home, it’s what keeps us alive. If the forests are gone, we are gone”. She does not come from the forest, but she understands, respects, and is always ready to fight for it. #NemonteNenquimo told us that the climate crisis for her people is “the mother nature screaming, crying, seeking for help”. This is from someone who truly sees, feels and suffers the impacts of climate change and yet without the platform at #Time rarely has their voice heard. Dr. Robert Bullard has invested more than 4 decades highlighting environmental racism with facts. His powerful words reminded me why we all have a part to play not just now, but to leave a better World for the next generations. We need all hands-on deck approach, and we must listen to the most impacted communities because as Dr. Bullard remarked “they have PhDs in living, they understand the problems better than anybody”. We are taking note of this, listening and acting at Brimstone . We constantly remind ourselves why we are doing what we do, and are building a talented and diverse team to represent, respect, and listen to the communities that we are trying to help through our work. Our work is a real beacon of hope in the energy transition, and we are proud to be part of the change.
