Recently we partnered with DC Fiscal Policy Institute to design their report on the hidden costs of getting justice in DC's criminal legal system. Our Creative Director Acacia Betancourt worked with the team at DCFPI to select images that reflected the reality of those most affected by the economic injustice of our legal system while making sure not to reinforce stereotypes. They also included design elements that would resonate with a local audience, like a repeating motif of three red stars, reminiscent of the DC flag. And finally, their superb design skills made it possible to include data visuals that are easy to understand. If you want to create a report that grabs attention without trivializing your subject matter, get in touch! Our designers clearly have what it takes to make heavy topics more engaging! #InclusiveDesign #Comms4good #SelectInclusiveImages

Today, our Creative Director Acacia Betancourt teamed up with public media pro Ernesto Aguilar to discuss "Integrating #AI with #DEI in Public Media." AI can be a time-saver, but also threaten public trust in #publicmedia. Among their best tips: 🌟 Align AI with your organization's mission, vision, and values. 🌟 Prioritize transparency & accountability (here's a good article defining transparency & accountability for public media: https://lnkd.in/eSKHQqZk 🌟 Upskill employees so they can use these new tools ethically. 🌟 Pretend AI is an alien and knows NOTHING about humanity. Therefore, the more specificity the better. Thank you Amber Samdahl for putting together this powerful and informative webinar!

We’re really proud to have designed Annie E. Casey Foundation’s annual KIDS COUNT Data Book for the third year in a row! Check it out! And bravo to the AECF team for making this data available to all!

President and CEO, The Annie E. Casey Foundation | Board Director | Strategist | Social Innovator | Thought Leader

The 35th edition of the Annie E. Casey Foundation's KIDS COUNT® Data Book is out today and I spent the morning participating in dozens of radio interviews across the country. The Data book examines the unprecedented declines in student math and reading proficiency brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on education. The latest data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress reveals that between 2019 and 2022, fourth-grade reading and eighth-grade math scores plummeted, representing decades of lost progress. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for action to address the growing academic disparities among U.S. students. In the book we highlight how chronic absence (missing 10+ days of school per year) and childhood trauma (experiencing poverty, community violence, etc.) contribute to lower educational success for students. Unfortunately 30% of all kids were chronically absent in 2022 and 40% of all kids experienced one or more traumas. These are extremely common issues. We have a lot of work to do to help our children overcome these barriers to gain the high-level reading, math and problem-solving skills required in a competitive global economy. The failure to adequately prepare our children will have dire consequences for their futures and for the economic vitality of our nation. Last month, the American Alliance of Museums held its annual conference in #Baltimore, where museum professionals got the change to connect and learn about how they can continue to create healthy museums and thriving communities. Brevity & Wit was proud to contribute to the mission of museums by designing the branding and collateral for this large annual conference. Our design team partnered with AAM to use photos of real museum professionals, and then set those photos against geometric shapes in AAM's branded colors to create compelling, but not overwhelming, backdrops for their bookstore, registration station, and speaker podium. The designs were also included in a selfie station (pic #3) for attendees! In doing so, the event branding helped contribute to a greater sense of belonging for all museum professionals and attendees. If you're interested in creating an inclusive event that fosters a sense of belonging through great design, get in touch to find out what our design team can do for you! #inclusivedesign #eventbranding #eventmanagement #learninganddevelopment #conferencemarketing #eventmarketing
