About us

The Brain Tumour Research charity exists to raise the awareness of and grow the funding for scientific research into brain tumours and improve outcomes for brain tumour patients. We are the only national charity in the UK dedicated to funding continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours. We are a leading voice in this country calling for greater support and action for research into brain tumours. The Brain Tumour Research charity supports one of the UK’s largest collaborative group of laboratory-based scientists progressing world-class research into brain tumours, working tirelessly to glean new layers of understanding about this disease. Key statistics on brain tumours: • Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer • They kill more children than leukaemia • They kill more men under 45 than prostate cancer • They kill more women under 35 than breast cancer • Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease • In the UK 16,000 people each year are diagnosed with a brain tumour • Less than 20% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years compared with an average of 50% across all cancers • Incidences of, and deaths from, brain tumours are increasing. Together we will find a cure. Text CURE to 70660 to donate £5.

Our Patron, Alfie Boe, has launched a special rose in memory of his dad, Alfred, who passed away from a brain tumour when Alfie was just 23. Yesterday, he unveiled the Alfred Robert Boe rose at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, following the final night of his 18-date UK tour. Alfie shared, “My dad loved his roses, so it’s really special for me to do this in his memory while helping to raise money for Brain Tumour Research, a charity I am very proud to be a Patron of and which is working to find a cure for this devastating disease.” For every Alfred Robert Boe rose sold, Harkness Roses will donate £2.50 to us 🌹 Read more ➡️ https://bit.ly/3XObf3c #HamptonCourtGardenFestival #Charity #Fundraising #Rose

We have some exciting updates on our Board of Trustees! Although we are sad to see Wendy Fulcher stand down as Chair, the role of Chair will now be taken up by Trustee and current Vice Chair Robert Hughes, Sue Farrington Smith MBE, also a Trustee, will become Vice Chair. Having worked for Mars Inc for 33 years, where he was managing director of Mars Food in the UK for 11 years, Rob was chair of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust from 2013 to 2021 and a member of Cambridgeshire Integrated Care Board. Co-founder and former Chief Executive, Sue led the coming together of a number of brain tumour charities to found Brain Tumour Research in 2009. Last year, Sue announced that she was retiring from her role as Chief Executive after undergoing extensive surgery for low-grade abdominal cancer the previous year. Introducing Miles, our Celebrity and Influencer Relationship Manager, the talent behind our Celebrity Supporters 🌟 We asked Miles a few questions for you all to get to know him.. ✨ Explain your role at Brain Tumour Research ✨ I love this job, after 25 years working in TV and music. I get to use my contacts to try and make a difference in bringing high-profile celebrities and influencers together in their support of Brain Tumour Research, especially those celebrities who have been closely affected by this devastating disease. Our high-profile supporters are regularly involved in fundraising, raising awareness, campaigning and sending messages to our supporters. I source, build long-term relationships, and attach high-profile celebrity patrons/ Royal Patron, ambassadors and supporters. 🌟 What is the best part about your job? 🌟 It’s incredibly rewarding, emotional, breathtaking and exciting every day. While every day is different the fight for a cure and funding stays the same. 💛 Tell us one memorable moment you have experienced 💛 While working at the charity. Too many memorable moments. Overwhelmed with the love and generosity of the Sellebrity soccer match for A Hope For Ethan. It went viral with celebs and footballers posting/sharing videos of themselves all in a circle on the pitch applauding Ethan who should have been celebrating his 20th Birthday that day! When 100 celebrities joined us for Brain Tumour Awareness month – generating 500 million in media coverage and watching them connect so emotionally with the brain tumour community is something I will never forget. It’s all about contacts and building strong long-term relationships. Very honoured to have Alfie Boe OBE working alongside us, Alfie sadly lost his father Alfred to a brain tumour in 1997, to go from a very quick conversation to 3 months later announcing Alfie as our Patron and watching him on BBC Breakfast was a surreal but very proud moment. #BrainTumourResearch #RaisingAwareness #Awareness #Celebrities
