It’s official! BXP begins trading on the NYSE as BXP, Inc. today, completing a change we announced in late 2022. Founded in 1970 as Boston Urban Associates by Mort Zuckerman & Ed Linde, Boston Properties, Inc. completed an IPO in June 1997 on the NYSE with the ticker BXP. At the time, the $903 million IPO was the largest REIT public offering. In September 2022, we began using BXP exclusively to reference the company in public facing materials. Having recently grown to six regions, the change telegraphed to stakeholders that while Boston remains a key part of our history, founding, and portfolio, future growth will come throughout our regions: Boston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC. BXP aspires to be the real estate industry partner of choice and premier workplace leader in all our cities, and the evolution of our name reflects a national, not singular city, focus. Supporting street level activation and community engagement is key to a thriving urban environment. This week, BXP announced seven new retail leases with local businesses at the 3.3 million square foot mixed-use Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. The new leases stem from both BXP’s internal "pop-up" program, which provides retailers access to temporarily occupy spaces with the goal of transitioning to long-term leases, and the city-initiated Vacant to Vibrant program SF New Deal. The local small businesses, including a self-guided wine tasting experience, plant store and California-Thai restaurant, will add to Embarcadero Center’s dynamic retail, restaurant, and workplace experience. BXP Senior Vice President of Leasing Christine Yuen recently caught up with the San Francisco Chronicle to discuss the new leases and BXP’s ongoing commitment to create and foster a thriving Downtown San Francisco.
