The Boston Design Center (BDC) last week welcomed the New England design community to the 11th Annual Spring Market. The full-day of programming, which coincided with Boston Design Week, featured esteemed designers Barclay Butera, David Netto, Brian Sawyer, and Nina Farmer, and included panels, lectures, book signings, open houses, and networking events. Over the past few years, we have continued to curate the BDC, which is located within the Innovation and Design Building in Boston, for greater efficiency, thematic focus, and growth. A little more than 10 years ago, Jamestown acquired what would become The Innovation and Design Building (IDB) in Boston. Originally built in 1918 by the U.S. Department of Defense, the IDB was originally used to store and distribute military supplies and was pivotal to the war efforts in the first half of the 20th Century. However, by 2013 the building was in disrepair. Jamestown saw the potential in this historic asset to be a hub for start ups, technology companies, designers, and scientists. Over the last 10 years, the IDB has become a fixture of the growing Seaport neighborhood and thousands of workers fill its 1.35 million square feet of space once more. Additionally, the IDB is home to the Boston Design Center which has also been renovated to better serve the design community of New England. That community will come to the center in full force next month as we host The Boston Design Center's Spring Market on May 1st. Buildings like the Innovation and Design Building have long histories that we are proud to be a part of.
