About a month ago, I was impressed by the great organization and affluence at the WNE - World Nuclear Exhibition event in Paris. Congratulations to WNE for hosting the largest nuclear industry-wide exhibition in history. This gave me the opportunity to have many conversations and make great connections with people and companies selling and developing key technologies for the MIGHTR. It was particularly enticing to speak about Helical Coil Steam Generators with Roberta Ferri and Andrea Achilli from SIET S.p.A., which ran tests for an SMR project in the past. Helical Coil Steam Generators are one of the design options for the Steam Generator, along with a compact heat exchanger design. Likewise, it was encouraging to speak with David Budd about how Konecranes is helping the entire nuclear industry with their cranes and other lifting/transporting solutions. I was amazed by the breadth of applications that solutions from Konecranes have in SMRs and in the MIGHTR design. It was great to explore many other technological applications to the MIGHTR project with other possible suppliers/collaborators, such as in-core instrumentation with Shyang Puri from RdF and crawler robots with Andrew Lawrence from Deep Trekker Inc. I would like to acknowledge these and many other interesting conversations and possibilities for collaboration here, which reassure me of my optimistic view about the MIGHTR technology and Boston Atomics.

I was so thrilled and honored to give a keynote yesterday addressing global nuclear developments at “All Roads Lead to Rome: Nuclear Role in the Energy Transition Era” hosted by the Rome Advanced District in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino Energy Center and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Grazie mille to Roberto Casula for the invitation and flawless organization of a truly inspiring day! 🇮🇹Of course, the biggest takeaway was that we’re talking about #nuclearenergy in Rome! 📢Yes, Italy has some way to go to gain public support for nuclear energy, but there are pro-nuclear voices in Parliament and the administration. 💡Importantly, I learned about the deep capabilities of the Italian nuclear supply chain. Did you know that Italian industry can fully support the deployment of at least 6 SMRs today?! 🎧 I could listen all day every day to MIT’s Jacopo Buongiorno on nuclear technologies. And even after all this time, I’m still amazed at the energy density of nuclear. 3kg of uranium235 / day - I don’t even have a dumbbell that small - to power the city of Boston. 🤯 ✅ Great fact check on nuclear myths by Marco Ricotti. An average person produces a rhino’s 🦏 worth of waste a day, while radioactive waste is the size of a mouse! 🐭 🇸🇪 And probably the most inspiring presentation was by Kärnfull Energi (SE)’s John Ahlberg - an ingenious and highly successful concept of delivering 100% nuclear energy via Guarantees of Origin issued by Swedish nuclear plants to consumers in Sweden and Denmark. And Kärnfull Next (KNXT) is planning to build SMRs in Sweden, with the first site announced at Studsvik! Ci vediamo presto, Italia, and hope to see progress soon on the re-adoption of nuclear in this great country.
