About us

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, a bureau in the U.S. Department of the Interior, is the Federal agency that manages our nation's offshore energy, mineral, and geological resources. The program is national in scope and is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Regional offices are located in New Orleans, Louisiana.; Camarillo, California, northwest of Los Angeles; and Anchorage, Alaska. A broad range of scientific, engineering and program management positions are required to keep BOEM at the forefront of offshore resource management and powering our nation. This draft EA evaluates the potential impacts associated with issuing leases, site characterization, and site assessment activities within the proposed offshore wind lease area(s). To inform our environmental review and better understand the potential impact of leasing in the area, we are seeking public input. We will hold a 30-day public comment period and 2 virtual meetings.     • Just Announced: the Draft Environmental Assessment for the Gulf of Maine 

We will conduct a review of potential environmental impacts associated with potential offshore wind activities in the Gulf of Maine. We invite public comment on this draft Environmental Assessment (EA). These comments will inform our environmental review. A public comment period will be held June 21, 2024 through July 22, 2024.

These lease areas, totaling approximately 277,948 acres, have the potential to unlock up to 6.3 GW of offshore wind energy, power up to 2.2 million homes, while supporting of new good-paying union jobs.
