The Product Growth Newsletter 🚀 | Helping PMs, product leaders, and aspiring PMs succeed

Revealed: How to Succeed in Meta Product Manager Interviews. Here's the exact doc Meta shares with candidates for its PM Interviews: That's the attached. And here's my POV on the key takeaways (most of it applies to all PM interviews): TIPS FOR ALL ROUNDS There's 4 things to remember across interviews 1. Structure - using a framework is a must, not cringe 2. Discuss tradeoffs - don't be overly rose about any suggestion 3. Think about different user segments with empathy - you have to understand the relationship to metrics 4. Be creative - the best candidates are coming up with unique solutions others don't mention These are your north-stars. As for each specific interview... PRODUCT SENSE INTERVIEWS These are the classics: what's your favorite product and why? If you were CEO of X, what would you do? They're looking for very specific rubric areas, so address all 5: 1. Understanding the product landscape and motivation 2. Determining the target audience 3. Identifying and prioritizing the problem 4. Developing creative and impactful solutions 5. Making intentional design choices You should be able to go end-to-end on a feature, even with a sketch, in 45 minutes. ANALYTICAL THINKING INTERVIEWS This is the metric and KPI-focused interview: • We’ve recognized a 10 percent drop in newly registered users. What data and/or results would you need to look into to understand and fix the problem? • If you’re the product manager for ‘X’ product, define the goals and metrics. They have 4 main rubric areas to cover: 1. Articulating a product’s rationale 2. Setting reasonable, measurable and prioritized goals 3. Measuring impact and identifying metrics 4. Evaluating trade-offs So it's critical to think be fluent with your metrics and succinct with going through them. LEADERSHIP & DRIVE INTERVIEWS This is the interview where they figure out how strong your stakeholder and soft skills are. They explicitly ask you to use the STAR framework: • Situation • Task • Action • Result So you have to be able to answer that while showing 4 rubric areas: 1. Driving resourcefulness and results 2. Seeking opportunities to grow and learn 3. Taking ownership and accountability 4. Resolving conflict The attached doc is as close as it gets to a bible for preparing for these interviews. But for the answer to questions like: • What do the interviews for managers and directors look like? • How much time should you spend in each part of each case? • How can you influence the level you are placed at? You'll have to check out my newsletter: https://lnkd.in/evHQ_w-E
