The first BMW Press Shop in North America opened at BMW Manufacturing as the plant prepares to assemble the new BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle. The press shop will stamp sheet metal parts for the new BMW X3, including hang-on parts such as the vehicle’s four doors, fenders, lift gate, and exterior body sides. Plant Spartanburg was honored to be joined by Dr. Milan Nedeljković, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing, and Randy Watson, regional vice president of the Southern Region for BMW of North America. BMW Manufacturing was proud to sponsor the 9th Annual Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Night at Fluor Field on June 25. This signature event, hosted by the Greenville Drive, offered a unique opportunity for thousands of K-12 students and their families to explore the world of STEM education and potential careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering. The evening kicked off with a pre-game panel discussion in the 500 Club where we were honored to have our own Ericka Suber, HR Manager of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, represent BMW alongside industry leaders from Greenville Technical College, GE Vernova, and Michelin. The panel provided valuable insights on "Pursuing AM&E as a Viable Career Opportunity" and highlighted the pathways students can take to pursue a successful career in these fields. Following the panel, the concourse came alive with interactive exhibits where students experienced virtual and augmented reality, robotics, 3D animation, and more. This event truly showcased the innovative spirit of advanced manufacturing and engineering in the Upstate. The BMW X4 has earned top honors in the 2024 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). The X4 placed first in the Compact Premium SUV segment beating out the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Porsche Macan. Congratulations to those at BMW Manufacturing for this outstanding achievement!     The J.D. Power IQS includes new model year 2024 vehicles that were registered between April 2023 and February 2024. The survey, which measures issues that customers have experienced with their new vehicle early in the ownership period, was conducted between February and May 2024. Exterior construction of BMW’s high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff, South Carolina, was completed on Friday, June 21, with the last steel beam placed on top of the structure. BMW management, including Dr. Robert Engelhorn and Dr. Milan Nedeljković, joined representatives from the city of Woodruff, Spartanburg County, Evans Construction, and the Plant Woodruff team to celebrate the ceremonial topping off. A symbolic South Carolina flag, U.S. flag, and Palmetto tree were placed on top of this final beam. The 2024 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by TD SYNNEX concluded Sunday, June 9, as Ryan Gerard was declared the winner of the tournament following a bogey free 46 holes. This year’s BMW Charity Pro-Am took place June 6-9 at Thornblade Club in Greer and The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, with appearances and game play from notable celebrities, including comedian Larry the Cable Guy, 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips and former professional football player Vince Young. BMW Manufacturing congratulates Braden Wilson on being named the 2025 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. Wilson is a Social Studies teacher at Palmetto Middle School in Anderson School District One. She was named Teacher of the Year at a ceremony honoring all the state’s teachers held on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion in Columbia, SC. As part of the celebration, BMW Manufacturing, the program’s premier sponsor for 27 years, handed Wilson the keys to a 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i. The Manhattan Green Metallic X5 has Black Sensafin Upholstery with 22-inch M double-spoke bi-color wheels. It includes the M Sport Package, panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof, and the BMW Curved Display with configurable 12.3-inch instrument cluster with 14.9-inch central information display. This year is the 25th anniversary of the BMW X5. Wilson will drive the X5 during her year-long sabbatical from the classroom as South Carolina’s public education ambassador. After the announcement, Wilson stated: “There are no words to express how honored I feel right now and how humbling it is to represent a group as amazing as South Carolina educators,” Wilson said. “I don’t think teachers get by without the help of each other. Everything I do in the classroom is because the teachers I work with at Palmetto Middle School help each other. It’s never an ‘I’ or a ‘we’ thing. BMW Manufacturing joined dozens of high-tech companies at the annual Imagine Upstate STEAM Festival in Greenville. The festival allows companies, schools, and non-profits to engage students from PreK through grade 12 in a variety of interactive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning exhibits.  BMW Scholars provided young people a hands-on experience operating mBots, an educational robot for students. They also built simple circuit boards to power a tiny engine. BMW associates along with family and friends planted trees at Boiling Springs Middle School in April. The tree planting event has become a popular volunteer experience at BMW as well as a way to support TreesUpstate, whose mission is to plant, promote, and protect trees in Upstate South Carolina. Special thanks to the associates who planted trees at the school to help beautify the area.
