Taking Safety to the Next Level As part of Blue Bird's Next Level Safety announcement, a school bus crash test was performed at IMMI's premiere testing facility, CAPE, in Westfield, Indiana. The simulated crash test demonstrates the added safety Blue Bird buses provide passengers in the event of an accident when equipped with three-point seat belts and driver air bags, compared to the dangers passengers face without the added safety features. Last week, IMMI and Blue Bird Bus made an historic announcement that beginning in October – lap shoulder belts will be standard safety equipment on Blue Bird buses with IMMI SafeGuard Sabre seats made at our Macon, Georgia location! We also announced that for the first time, frontal airbags (4Front) will be standard safety for school bus drivers starting in 2025. JUST IN: Blue Bird Launches Most Comprehensive School Bus Safety Upgrades in its History “For nearly a century, our children’s safety has been our business. We proudly carry millions of school children every year, the most precious cargo in the world,” said Britton Smith, president of Blue Bird Corporation. “Today we raise the bar even higher for student transportation by announcing the most comprehensive safety upgrades to our school buses in our history.” For the first time in student transportation history, new Blue Bird buses will be equipped with three-point seat belts as standard protection for all student passengers. As an additional industry first, Blue Bird will safeguard school bus drivers with the introduction of 4Front, a steering wheel deployed air bag.
