After a lengthy political debate, the Bundestag approved the Federal Government's bill on "Controlled Use of Cannabis" on Friday, February 23, 2024. The bill would allow adults to possess up to 50 grams of cannabis for personal use in private spaces. In public spaces, the maximum limit will be 25 grams. In a roll-call vote, 407 parliamentarians voted in favor of the law, 226 voted against it, and four abstained. The Federal Government's bill envisions the legal possession and consumption of cannabis for adults. It now allows for private home cultivation, non-commercial collective home cultivation, and regulated distribution of cannabis through cultivation organizations.
