About us
Brink exists to strengthen the Bitcoin protocol and network through fundamental research and development, and to support the Bitcoin developer community through funding, education, and mentoring. We support and mentor new contributors to open source Bitcoin development through our fellowship program, and support the work of established Bitcoin protocol engineers through our grants program. We were founded in 2020 with generous financial support from John Pfeffer and Wences Casares. We are 100% funded by donations from individuals and organizations who wish to support the open source Bitcoin network and protocol.

Why is it important to support core #bitcoin developers? Although the #bitcoin network is highly decentralized, the core codebase, like any software product, requires maintenance. As developers ship new codes to add features to the network, such as taproot and mini-script, these codes need to be reviewed and tested. However, since there's no Bitcoin Foundation (like Ethereum having Ethereum Foundation) to pay these core developers salaries, the work is done on a voluntary basis outside their day jobs. Bitcoin Brink creates grants for developers to work on the Bitcoin Network full-time without distraction. You can say purchasing a Ledger directly contributes to the health of the #bitcoin network.
