It has been such an exciting past couple of months for Biobe! We have spent the last 3 months learning and growing in the LaunchVT Accelerator, and could not be happier with the results. Our primary goal for entering this program was to further connect with those in our local Vermont entrepreneurial ecosystem and to continue promoting Biobe’s vision and momentum toward helping 1 million children by 2030 thrive. We are so honored and proud to be coming out of this program with so much more. Not only have we expanded our roots here locally with amazing new friends, partners, and supporters, but we’ve also learned a lot! Working directly with amazing Vermont leaders such as our fellow entrepreneurs in the LaunchVT program (Hootie Hoo, Brightwater Tools, Shrubbly, EnrichedHQ, Offshore, Flipt, H2GO Energy Water) has been such a special and fulfilling experience for us. We are thrilled to have won the LaunchVT 2024 pitch competition, based on Biobe’s viability, scalability, potential for economic impact, and the quality of our pitch. These funds will help us to continue moving forward at full speed! Thank you to all those that attended or supported this year’s Demo Night hosted at Hula, and to the judges (Myla Lai-Goldman, Chuck Bush, and Sivan Cotel) and organizers (led by Lauren B., the rockstar!!!) for their time and efforts on, for, and leading up to this memorable night. If you missed Demo Night, we invite you to check out our pitch at this link: https://lnkd.in/eFVTsbuX. A huge thank you to the amazing folks at Vermont Chamber of Commerce, and the stellar lineup of LaunchVT '24 mentors and friends including (but definitely not limited to) the incredible Peter Anderson, Ashley Wainer, Geoff Strawbridge, Mark Heyman, Rachel Allard, Will Jeffries, Jason Burke, Akshata Nayak, Steve Redmond, Ed Egan, Cairn Cross, Zachary Chilcote, & so so many more! The weekly sessions and 1-1's from the roster of 40+ local and national business, marketing, legal, accounting, design, and financing leaders has been such an invaluable addition to our participation in the program. Biobe was so fortunate to be paired with Jeff Chu as our primary mentor. Words truly cannot express the value of his (many hours of) mentorship and guidance. Additionally, business powerhouses Jenna Date and Lauren B. generously shared many hours of one-to-one mentorship directly with our CEO, Bryn L., further developing and supporting her background in compassion-driven entrepreneurship. We at Biobe are so proud to have had the opportunity to learn and pitch among this 2024 LaunchVT cohort and to be recognized as one of the premier budding startups in this tight-knit Vermont ecosystem. Stay tuned with us here on LinkedIn for more updates and opportunities to get involved in our growth coming soon. Photo by Nick Edwards, Courtesy of Hello Burlington. Following an impressive pitch, Burlington start-up Biobe took home the Grand Prize this evening at LaunchVT’s 2024 Demo Night! The young company, which is dedicated to developing digital health solutions to support families and providers navigating early childhood mental healthcare, features a talented team with close connections to UVM and CEMS. Biobe CEO Bryn Loftness is a doctoral student in UVM’s Complex Systems and Data Science program. She celebrates here with co-founder Nick Cheney, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, and a really big check. Former UVM and current Wake Forest faculty Ryan McGinnis and Ellen McGinnis are also co-founders of Biobe. Lake Champlain Chamber LaunchVT

Currently, the average diagnostic delay for rare disease is 10-15 years, even longer in rural and underserved areas. Inability to access specialty care is one of the most common reasons for this delay and mismanagement, and this is a problem we can solve with our Project Zebra.  ____ Bryn L.  NSF Graduate Research Fellow | University of Vermont Complex Systems Center Research Associate | Broad Institute Sabeti Lab  CEO/Co-Founder | Biobe Lab:  https://lnkd.in/eNYiCRYT Homepage: https://www.biobe.org   How might your work impact the world? 🌎 🎙I am passionate about addressing the gap in current pediatric and family care and envision the application of new data and physiology-based technologies within this space to revolutionize the modern mental health systems— starting when children have the highest chance of long-term success following identification.

This is a great article about the SPARK program featured in the February 2024 issue of Nature Portfolio's Biotechnology. The incredibly successful SPARK model was developed by SPARK at Stanford and has been adopted by over 60 universities in 6 continents, including the University of Vermont's SPARK-VT. "Over the past 17 years, SPARK at Stanford has a ~50% success rate as measured by two criteria: advancing projects through licensing to commercial entities and/or entering into investigator-initiated clinical studies.” Check out the full story below and learn more about the SPARK approach to translation research.  (https://lnkd.in/ghgQjfWP) #SPARK #Technology #Innovation #UVM #Research
