With sexually transmitted infections on the rise globally, the WHO emphasized in a recent report the need for new solutions at point-of-care. Molecular platforms like the binx io can play an important role in improving access to care and improving patient outcomes.   But not all platforms are created equal. Important questions to ask for your business and your patients: ·       Can the platform test both male and female samples? ·       Is the product adversely affected by the use of antiperspirants, deodorants or vaginal products used in the last 48 hours? (douches, washes, lubricants, vaginal wipes, vaginal moisturizers, or feminine hygiene spray)? ·       Is your product cleared for clinician-collected vaginal samples? ·       Does the product seamlessly integrate with EHR or do results have to be manually entered? ·       What if I can’t get to the sample right away for processing? Will the patient sample remain stable for 24 hours at room temperature? ·       Is your invalid rate greater than 2%? 3%? 5%? ·       Does your platform include multi-user lock-out for in-clinic staff? ·       Is there an extra charge for essential equipment like a power cord?
