The Board of Directors of Beyond Vision have named Rob Buettner as the organization’s new President and CEO. Buettner’s leadership will represent consistency and growth for the nonprofit focused on employment opportunities for people who are blind. “It’s been my honor to carry the torch of leading Beyond Vision for 17 years. I couldn’t be happier than to pass it along to Rob.” Retiring President & CEO, Jim Kerlin also commented, “He’s the right person to guide Beyond Vision to the next level of growth.” Working in the field of blindness and vision impairment for over 25 years, he is a natural fit. For the past 11 years, Buettner has served as VP of Relationships & Business Services at Beyond Vision. Prior to his time at Beyond Vision, he spent over 11 years working at Vision Forward, an organization providing services for people with visual impairments. Read more: https://ow.ly/xwwH50Su7sa

Today, we celebrate Helen Keller’s 144th Birthday! Born June 27, 1880, Helen Keller dedicated her life to breaking down society's misconceptions toward people with disabilities. She spent half her life working on behalf of the American Foundation for the Blind, a journey that began a century ago in 1924. The world has undoubtedly transformed since Helen first joined AFB, but her impact and legacy remain as strong as ever, even as we continue to battle some of the same social barriers that persist a century later. Join us in celebrating Helen’s birthday by supporting her legacy: https://lnkd.in/eHuR_3SJ. Helen’s legacy has been front and center this year at AFB after we released the full-length documentary film Possibilities, which captures the impact of Helen Keller’s life through the contemporary voices of people who are blind and deafblind. Learn more about Possibilities by visiting afb.org/possibilities.

This Firework Eye Safety Month, WCO reminds you that although fireworks can be exciting, they can also cause significant injuries if mishandled, especially to the eyes. Follow the safety tips below to keep your eyes safe while handling fireworks. ◆ Wear protective eyewear while handling fireworks. ◆ Do not touch unexploded fireworks. ◆ Keep a bucket of water nearby to pour on fireworks that fail to explode. ◆ Never light fireworks in a container. ◆ If an eye injury does occur, seek medical attention immediately.
