Yep, another election season is upon us. And my 7 year old already had questions at the dinner table tonight…

Last night’s presidential debate brought up some important conversations from my two boys. Even though they are only 8 and 11 and did not watch the whole debate, they still saw clips and memes on social media and will likely overhear discussion about it as this election season evolves. I know it can be difficult to talk to your child about politics and current events, but it’s so important they learn about these big issues from you and not on social media or a friend on the school bus. The good news is that Bend Health has got your back. Our pronouns (he, she, they, etc.) are core elements to our identity. So, if your child asks you to use a different pronoun than they were assigned at birth, know that these words really matter, and it's time to listen up. Using your child’s correct gender pronouns is one of the most simple ways you can express your support, and it can make a BIG difference in helping them to live their best life.  According to The Trevor Project, there is a 29% decrease in suicidal ideation and a 56% decrease in suicidal behavior for youth when their chosen name is used.
