A little backstory behind one of the very first Ballad Pictures projects.
On June 2, 2010, Ken Griffey Jr. left the Mariners clubhouse after the second game of a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins, leaving in the middle of the night for a cross-country drive to his home in Florida. The following day he released a statement announcing his retirement effective immediately. I'm as big of a Griffey fan as the next, but that day holds another special memory for me. A short film that Alec Whittle and I made was featured on the Seattle Times home page for winning the "3-Minute Masterpiece" film contest. For a brief 8 minutes, our work was in the spotlight, until the Griffey news broke and upstaged our moment of fame. They say timing is everything, and apparently, ours was off by about 8 minutes. We had our 15 minutes of fame cut short by a true legend. Lesson learned: next time you win a contest, make sure Ken Griffey Jr. isn’t planning any major announcements! Hats off to the Kid.
