El mes pasado presente mi proyecto doctoral titulado "The role of social capital in the resilience of innovation ecosystems: the case of Engineering Faculty of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia" en la conferencia BALAS 2024 que tuvo lugar en São Paulo, Brasil. Fue una experiencia muy gratificante discutir sobre ecosistemas de innovación y obtener recomendaciones de académicos expertos en el área, así como ser nominado al premio de mejor ponencia del coloquio doctoral. Gracias a la Business Association of Latin American Studies - BALAS y a la FGV EAESP - Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas por ofrecer este espacio tan valioso para los estudios sobre negocios en América Latina.

Nuestros profesores Norma Ortiz Silva PhD., Andrés Guerrero Alvarado Ph.D. e Iván Darío Sánchez Manchola participaron en la BALAS Annual Conference 2024, que se llevó a cabo en la FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), escuela de administración de empresas de São Paulo, donde se unieron a más de 185 académicos de 54 escuelas e instituciones de negocio de 18 países. En este importante evento académico, nuestros profesores tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir conocimientos y experiencias sobre empresas familiares, inversión de impacto y efecto del valor razonable en la valoración de empresas, en el contexto latinoamericano. Pasaron ya algunos días pero no quería dejar de compartir la hermosa experiencia que viví en la Conferencia anual 2024 de la Business Association of Latin American Studies - BALAS en junio en donde fuimos recibidos muy cálidamente por la FGV FGV EAESP - Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas. Participé tanto del Coloquio Doctoral donde expuse parte de mi tesis, como de las mesas simultáneas de la conferencia donde compartí un paper escrito con el Dr. Lucas Pujol-Cols y el Dr. Guillermo Dabos. Fue muy enriquecedor participar de un evento que congregó a profesionales de 18 países, donde no sólo pudimos compartir nuestras investigaciones sino también muy gratos momentos! Un honor representar a la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Sociales - Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata.

In 2024, FGV EAESP - Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas proudly hosted the Business Association of Latin American Studies - BALAS Annual Conference, held from June 18th to 21st. The event brought together experts from 18 countries to delve into the challenges and opportunities surrounding innovation in #LatinAmerica. With 54 institutions and universities represented and 185 participants registered, the conference fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights. The conference kicked off with two main lectures that set the stage for thought-provoking discussions: •Prof. Annabelle Gawer (University of Surrey) explored the profound impact of digital platforms and ecosystems on strategy, innovation, and power dynamics. She emphasized the need for businesses to adapt and develop novel strategies to thrive in this ever-evolving landscape. •Mr. William Maloney (The World Bank) delved into the "innovation paradox," investigating the pitfalls that hinder Latin America's progress and the key elements for fostering a thriving innovation ecosystem. His insights provided valuable perspectives on overcoming challenges and unlocking the region's innovation potential. Beyond that, the conference offered a wealth of opportunities for participants to engage with cutting-edge research and practical applications: •Parallel Sessions: 138 papers were accepted, with 103 presented across 19 sessions. •Workshops: Participants honed their skills in developing research papers and teaching cases through engaging workshops. •Special Sessions: dedicated sessions explored timely topics such as research impact, sustainability, and creative classroom practices. •Deans of business schools from Latin America convened to discuss regional collaboration in technology and innovation, fostering a collaborative spirit to address shared challenges and opportunities. •Editors meeting with outstanding and relevant journals for the region (JEFAS, ARLA, RAE, JMH, MRJIAM) shared their experience and recommendations to promote researchers' publications in our community, proposing an essential ecosystem of indexed journals. •The conference was not just about intellectual exchange; it also provided ample opportunities for participants to connect and celebrate the BALAS community with FGV's Tatu Bola Drum Band, a Welcome Cocktail, and Dinner. #BALAS2024 concluded on a high note, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and the broader Latin American innovation landscape. The inspiring lectures, diverse sessions, and engaging workshops provided a wealth of knowledge and insights. The conference also fostered a strong sense of community among BALAS members, setting the stage for future collaborations and initiatives.

A panel about Innovation and Circular Economy feat. Braskem, Natura and FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas? Count me in! Earlier today I had the opportunity to participate, on behalf of Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas and thanks to Claudia Echevenguá Teixeira's generous recommendation, in the insightful panel "Corporate Innovation for Sustainability: Cases of Implementing Circular Economy Principles in Brazil" at the Business Association of Latin American Studies - BALAS 2024 annual conference, hosted by FGV EAESP - Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo da Fundação Getulio Vargas. The session was a deep dive into the connections between innovation and the circular economy, based on practical organizational cases and lessons learned from them. Yuri Tomina Carvalho shared Braskem’s experiences on implementing circular economy principles through innovation projects and was followed by Fernanda Facchini, who contributed with Natura’s own organizational cases and lessons in the topic. I had the opportunity to present IPT’s role in developing innovative hard-tech solutions with companies, startups, academia and government, with special emphasis on the potential of open innovation to tackle complex challenges, through the lens of IPT Open's experience. I also shared a few interesting cases of sustainable solutions developed at and with IPT, including CCD Circula, an amazing joint venture by over thirty institutions (including IPT, FGV, Braskem and Natura), dedicated to developing solutions and applied technology for addressing the challenge of post-consumption waste. The discussion that followed our presentations was particularly enlightening, as we addressed the main challenges and lessons learned from both mistakes and successes within our organizations, the broader innovation and regulatory ecosystem, and society in general. 🌟 Insights do Congresso Anual BALAS 2024! 🌟 Participei de um painel ao lado de Fernanda Carreira, Gustavo Loiola e minha orientadora Adriana Caldana Caldana na Conferência BALAS 2024 na FGV EAESP. O evento focou em "Ecossistemas de Inovação para o Desenvolvimento Empresarial", destacando como tecnologias remodelam negócios e fomentam a colaboração entre stakeholders. Nossa sessão abordou o potencial da pedagogia Impactful Five (i5) na formação de lideranças responsáveis. Discutimos a importância de cultivar liderança responsável e práticas sustentáveis no cenário empresarial atual. O framework i5 integra sustentabilidade e questões sociais na educação empresarial, preparando líderes com habilidades holísticas para impactos significativos. O painel destacou a necessidade de preencher a lacuna de habilidades identificada pela iniciativa PRME, capacitando educadores com métodos inovadores do i5 para promover mudanças positivas em organizações e comunidades. Facilitei um World Café com duas perguntas principais: 1. O que significa liderar de forma responsável? 2. Quais 2-3 ações você realizou para desenvolvê-la na sala de aula? The event focused on "Innovation Ecosystems for Business Development," highlighting how technologies are reshaping businesses and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Our session addressed the transformative potential of the Impactful Five (i5) pedagogy in developing responsible leadership. We discussed the importance of cultivating responsible leadership and sustainable practices in today's business landscape. The i5 framework integrates sustainability and social issues into business education, preparing leaders with holistic skills for significant impacts. The panel emphasized the need to bridge the skills gap identified by the PRME initiative, empowering educators with i5's innovative methods to drive positive change in organizations and communities. I facilitated a World Café with two main questions: 1. What does it mean to lead responsibly? 2. What 2-3 actions have you taken to develop it in the classroom? It was gratifying to learn about the application of these educational innovations in different contexts, aligning with regional realities and promoting a network of educators committed to sustainable development. Tenho a satisfação em compartilhar que meu artigo sobre Gestão de Riscos ESG foi apresentado na prestigiada conferência BALAS 2024 na FGV EAESP! 🌍✨ O artigo avalia a evolução da Gestão de Riscos ESG, no Brasil, entre 2015 e 2022, identifica oportunidades de desenvolvimento de novos produtos a analisa as relações entre percepções de riscos ESG do consumidor e a incorporação desses riscos nas operações e desenvolvimento de produtos. Com um olhar detalhado sobre como os riscos ESG podem ser gerenciados pro-ativamente, espero inspirar e equipar líderes e organizações com as ferramentas necessárias para prosperar em um ambiente de negócios dinâmico e responsável.
