Happy Juneteenth! ✊🏾 We acknowledge the coexistence of the many emotions and realities that Juneteenth carries. Today, we celebrate our freedom, mourn the heinous acts of enslavement our ancestors endured, and remain committed to the work and standard of progress. We honor the strides made by the Black Arts community, defined by resilience, creativity, and justice. Our mission at the Black Arts & Culture Alliance of Chicago is to collectively advance excellence in the work of the Black arts and culture sector. Let's support our art and culture and ensure the voices that need to be heard are heard by considering a donation today. Together, we can create a world where freedom, creativity, and justice lead the way. #Juneteenth https://loom.ly/YKypwiE

For #BlackMusicMonth, we shine a spotlight on Chicago's own Mavis Staples! As a member of The Staple Singers and a solo artist, Mavis has been a powerful voice in soul and gospel music. Her music not only moves us but also fuels social change. From the civil rights era to today, Mavis continues to inspire with her soulful sound and activist spirit. Her new children's book, Bridges Instead of Walls, published by Penguin Random House, shares her life story in a spectacular picture book and is now available for pre-order! #MavisStaples #ChicagoLegend #BlackMusicMonth

Happy #BlackMusicMonth! Today, we honor the 'First Lady of Children’s Music,' Ella Jenkins! Born in St. Louis and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Ella's songs and spirit have inspired generations of children worldwide. She became the first Black woman to host her own children's show in Chicago, This is Rhythm, and many were introduced to Ella Jenkins from Sesame Street and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. She performed at Dr. King's Rally for Civil Rights at Soldier Field and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Read more about Ella's life and share her children's book that came out earlier this year, A Life of Song: The Story of Ella Jenkins. Let's celebrate this Chicago legend who has made the world sing and will be 100 in August! 🎶 🌟 💚 #ChicagoLegend #EllaJenkins
