With a Business Degree in Marketing and nearly 5 years of experience in the field, I've seen many companies underestimate the power of email marketing. When done correctly, email campaigns can generate significant revenue. However, it’s crucial to respect communication subscriptions, privacy laws, GDPR, and email regulations. To help you stay compliant and effective in your email marketing efforts with HubSpot, here are some useful tips: 1) Designate users as Marketing Contacts (updated via form submission, workflow, or import). 2) Secure the user's consent to subscribe to specific email subscriptions (via form submission, manually opting them in on their contact record, or using a workflow, as long as you have their consent). 3) Enable the HubSpot feature to automatically send a "Double Opt-in" email for subscription confirmation. 4) Activate the HubSpot feature to send a follow-up confirmation email once the user confirms their subscription from the "Double Opt-in" email. 5) Ensure your HubSpot client subscription pages are always up to date. By following these steps, you can enhance your email marketing strategy while remaining compliant. Any guesses on what the financial impact of this will be? Most business leaders have been there - that moment when technology fails us at the most critical time. The recent outages affecting Microsoft Windows and CrowdStrike remind us that even industry giants aren't immune to these challenges. As someone that builds software and provides cyber protection services, I can't help but reflect on the ripple effects such incidents have on businesses and the ensuing reputational damage. It's not just about temporary inconvenience; it's about trust, reliability, and the relationships we build with our tech partners and how those choices impact our customers. These events serve as a powerful reminder that just because your platforms are quiet doesn’t mean you can put your feet up. What should you do? 1. Invest in IT monitoring and auditing tools and have in place proper protocols for isolated test environments. Actually read the reports from your CIO’s/CTO’s done by 3rd party IT audit firms. 2. Diversify your application workloads, use multiple availability zones, fund dry-runs for your DR and data recovery plans, and leverage multi-cloud strategies where possible. 3. Choose a tech partner with the capabilties to quickly jump in and perform triage in parallel with communication workstreams. To be clear even these things may not be enough when problems happen at the hyperscaler level. Sometimes all you can do is diagnose, mitigate, and communciate. That’s when crisis communication and brand protection strategies kick in. Be timely, frequent, consistent, transparent and available to your customer to maintain SLA’s and salvage trust. How do you prepare for an extreme technology failure that will literally impact your ability to sell in the future? What lessons can we learn to build more resilient businesses and keep the trust of our customer?
