About us
The Aurora Police Department is responsible for providing law enforcement services to a growing, urban/suburban community with unique and ever-changing needs. We strongly believe that the challenges facing the Police Department can only be addressed effectively by connecting with community leaders, school administrators, members of the business community, non-profit organizations, other government agencies, neighborhood groups and most importantly, individual citizens. It is through this spirit of partnership that we will continue to see further reductions in crime and we will enhance the quality of life for those who live, work and play in our city. The Aurora Police Department currently employs nearly 748 officers and 181 professional staff.

It takes a special person to confront danger when everyone else tries to escape it. Officers working off-duty this past weekend did just that. After being alerted of a man pointing a gun at people at the carnival, officers located a man holding a handgun and were able to place him into custody safely. Undoubtedly, their actions prevented anyone from being injured that night. The 30-year-old suspect was booked into our jail for felony menacing and possession of a handgun while intoxicated. According to reports, the suspect was upset at employees who did not let a family member ride a specific ride due to the height requirements. This is one of many examples of our officers performing their jobs with duty, honor, and respect. Want to be a part of this fantastic team? Visit JoinAuroraPD.com.

A career in law enforcement sure is challenging, from the inherent risks to time away from family, but it’s also a chance to serve your community and help people in need 🙏 Those are just a few of the reasons why some of our newest recruits decided to apply to join the Aurora Police Department. Here in Aurora, new recruits must complete 26 weeks of extensive training before they’ll be considered an officer. In this new series, we will shed light on that process and introduce you to a few of those hoping to put on the badge in 26 weeks to begin the rewarding career of service to others. #JoinAuroraPD #RelationalPolicing

Officer Spotlight! 🌟 Officer Nguyen immigrated to the United States from Vietnam when he was a young boy. He followed in his father's footsteps by joining the military, and eventually went on to serve the public as a peace officer. Officer Nguyen joined APD in 2020 and is part of our Recruiting Unit. His story involves much more than these few words, so we wanted to highlight his background and career here at APD during our last day of Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month. Our AuroraSAVE Program continues to make a difference! 🙌 Most recently, APD Captain Hanifin joined First Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Kirsch at the Colorado Law Enforcement Conference to discuss group violence intervention. It's important to meet and discuss what we're seeing in our cities and share best practices.
