It's a family affair at Atria Tarzana! Sisters Bobi and Donna and their cousin Lani all live at the community, making every day a family reunion. "My favorite thing about living here is the fact that my sister and cousin are always nearby. There are also lots of very nice people here to meet and socialize with, shares Donna. "I also love how I don't have to cook," she laughed. And while they enjoy their time together shopping and sightseeing, they also pursue their personal interests through their community's programming. "I love painting and all the art classes. They have a variety here to indulge my creativity," shares Lani. Bobi adds, "I'm into all the card games they offer! They are all so fun!" Whether they're at a community celebration or playing Rummikub in each other's apartments, you're going to find these three laughing together.

  • We've all heard the saying "home is where the heart is," and a home is at the heart of this story. 🏡 “Mr. Rolly and I got to know each other very well over the past year" shared Valeria, the concierge at Atria Newport Beach. "After helping him with a project of his, he offered to paint a building of my choosing." Mr. Rolly is known through his community as an outstanding artist and for his background in architecture. Valeria added, "He showed me his beautiful work and I instantly fell in love with his artistic style. I thought of a building structure that I really liked, and decided on the first place I called “home.” I chose my family home in Hollywood where my parents still live." While she may not live at home anymore, she will always have a piece of her home with her thanks to this outstanding artwork. "Having this beautiful painting in my apartment just puts a smile on my face. Thank you to Mr. Rolly!"

  • "I felt unique, original and proud because it is something that I made myself and something you can’t buy in the market. There is a piece of me in this scarf because I designed it myself," expressed Eileen, a resident of Atria Tarzana, of a silk scarf she painted herself. Residents enjoyed trying a new art form and expressing their creative sides. Eileen added, "It was a new experience; I was happily and pleasantly surprised by the results of how it turned out because I had never done anything like this before. The colors blended really well, and they came out prettier than I expected." We agree. The scarves are gorgeous!

  • "Make art for yourself, for personal satisfaction, and not for public acclamation," shares Audrey, a resident of Atria at Foster Square. Audrey spent a remarkable 10 years as a ballet dancer, a journey that taught her the value of her craft. "You have to be 100% perfect in ballet. Everyone has to be in sync with the music and in sync with each other as ballet dancers." Her most rewarding moment as a ballerina was when the legendary George Balanchine, a renowned choreographer, invited her to join the New York City Ballet at just 15 years old after seeing her dance in class. Audrey's artistic journey extends to painting. She draws parallels between dance and painting, emphasizing the importance of movement and flow in both art forms. "I feel it totally within my body. I get a creative sense of flow inside and I can feel it through my arm and hand and the creativity just comes out on the canvas." What advice does Audrey have for younger generations of artists? "Follow your instincts and try a variety of mediums and art styles. Try them all."

  • "I was excited to hear the sound plants make when speaking to each other. I read a book before the class and wanted to learn more about how plants speak." It's a sound Suzanne was able to hear during a Sound Bath Meditation class held at Atria Newport Beach. "The rain-making tool was also really relaxing to hold." Suzanne and her fellow residents have wellness meditation weekly, but she said that this class was more profound. "I like living here. Lyn, our Engage Life Director, adds unique programs and always pays attention to the little details. She thinks of everything for us."

"Look up, never look down," is the advice Sylvia shared after celebrating her 107th birthday at Atria West 86 earlier this month. “And don't get yourself in trouble!” Well, not too much trouble at least. Known across the community for her vibrant personality and friendliness, Sylvia can often be found having a double espresso or chocolate ice cream for dinner with her best friend Helen, or joining her fellow residents in song during Happy Hour. Happy birthday, Sylvia! 🌟🥳
