About us

The Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness leads cross-organizational coordination for preparedness and response planning for the City of Atlanta and is the primary facilitator for implementation of prevention, preparedness, mitigation, and response strategies. MOEP provides subject matter expertise to the Mayor, Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer, and Cabinet members before, during, and after emergency and disaster incidents, and develops crisis management, emergency response, business continuity, and special event plans. Responsible for emergency preparedness, pandemic coordination, physical security operations, and the Securing the Cities program for radiological and nuclear detection, MOEP serves as the convener of local, state, and federal agencies, City of Atlanta departments, and regional, business, civic, and community stakeholders in preparing for and responding to natural and man-made disasters and large-scale special events such as Final Four, Superbowl, Olympic Marathon Trials, and the Peachtree Road Race. MOEP’s vision is a prepared, resilient, viable, and thriving Atlanta for future generations.
