For more than 160 years, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta has been championing communities where everyone belongs.
About us
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is an association of volunteers, members and staff, open to and serving all, with programs and services that build spirit, mind, and body. The organization is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. Together we work to ensure everyone—regardless of gender, income, faith, sexual orientation or cultural background—has the opportunity to live life to its fullest. We share the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility—everything we do stems from it. We know that the key to effectively nurturing the potential of children, improving the nation’s health and well-being and supporting our neighbors is a passionate, experienced and diverse array of staff, volunteers and members who value what everyone brings to the table. Working in communities across metro Atlanta makes strong diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices paramount for the Y. We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be focused and accountable. At the Y, we measure the success of our cause by how well we engage communities in our three areas of focus. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. HEALTHY LIVING Improving the nation's health and well-being. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.

On Friday, June 26, BlackRock Asset Management volunteers generously devoted their time at Decatur Family Y, engaging campers in a dynamic day of STEAM activities. With the support of our camp team, they led activities like building bottle rockets, creating paper towers, and crafting ice cream—all designed to inspire critical thinking and creativity in our young participants. We're grateful to Black Rock for their dedication to our community and for making learning both educational and enjoyable for our campers!

Thank you, Delta Air Lines volunteers, for your amazing service at our first-ever McCleskey Y Health Fair at Green Acres Baptist Church on yesterday! 🎉 Your hard work in managing stations, distributing essentials, leading activities, and more made a huge impact. Because of you, we provided essential items and resources to over 150 people in the Cobb community. 🙌 Thank you for supporting the Y's initiative to be a community resource center and promote health equity. We appreciate you! ❤️

Last week, Children’s, the City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation department, the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta and the American Red Cross of Georgia joined together for the Atlanta Water Safety Coalition’s World's Largest Swim Lesson. The nationwide event raises awareness about the importance of teaching kids how to swim. Drowning is the leading cause of death in kids ages 1 through 4. This summer, and all year round, we’re committed to helping kids splash safely. Remember: Eye's reach. Arm's reach. Always. Learn more about keeping kids safe in and around water at https://lnkd.in/e5KJS2my.

A heartfelt thank you to Gas South Volunteers for an amazing Impact Week at the Y, June 19 - 20. Over two days, 35 volunteers made a profound difference: from preparing 100 STEAM kits for our campers to hosting carnival-themed activity stations. On June 20, they joined our Teen Campers to paint a Juneteenth Mural, fostering community pride. Special thanks to Carl E. Sanders and Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA for hosting! Your dedication has empowered our youth and strengthened our community. Together, we're shaping a more inclusive future!

The Atlanta Water Safety Coalition, which includes the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, City of Atlanta Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR), Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, American Red Cross, WABE, and Greater Atlanta Water Safety Alliance, participated in the world's largest swimming lesson event on Thursday, June 20 at the East Lake Youth and Teen Center Pool. The nation-wide event is designed to build awareness about the importance of teaching kids to swim and drowning prevention. YMCA summer camp children, ages 5 to 10 years old from across 16 Y branches, participated in the swim lesson. Additionally, DPR lead swim lessons at six City of Atlanta pools, with Camp Best Friends campers receiving lessons at outdoor pools. The Atlanta Water Safety Coalition, established in 2023, is dedicated to developing age-appropriate strategies and enhancing access to swimming and water safety instruction for Atlanta's youth, particularly individuals from Black and Brown communities who are at a higher risk.

When people join the Y, they have access to more than 3,000 group fitness classes. The Y offers everything from cycling to dance to yoga, flexibility, strength and more, all impacting a person’s overall physical, mental and emotional health. As our guests explain, perhaps one of the best parts of these classes is the close-knit community formed as a result. Listen to today’s episode here: ymcaatlanta.org/podcast
