8 stats on social media and social commerce worth sharing from my keynote at the Digital Travel Summit a couple weeks ago: 1. People now spend an average of 2.5 hours PER DAY on social media (DataReportal) 2. Estimated value of the social commerce industry by 2025 is $1.2T (Forrester) 3. 13% of all e-commerce in China and 10% in South Korea (both the earliest adopters of new mobile behavior) was made directly on social media platforms (Accenture) 4. 80% of consumers use social media to research products and services before they buy (Hubspot) 5. 92% of consumers say they are more likely to trust a brand that they engage with on social media (Sprout Social) 6. 76% of TikTok users have made a purchase from a brand they first discovered on TikTok (Shopify) 7. Social Media’s share of online time is now over 40%+ for ages 16-35 8. Each generation increasingly relies on user-generated video / creators to inform their purchase decisions, currently 70/64% for Gen Z, 68/57% for Millennial, 47/41% for Gen X, and 22/16% for Boomers (Deloitte) Travel was the first large purchase that many of us ever made on the internet. The travel industry was a pioneer for e-commerce. We continue to be excited that like the industry did in the early 2000s, we have a unique moment to continue that evolution into the modern internet - which is social media and social commerce.
