Updates

  • We are saddened to share that Elva (Wingfield) Coor passed away on July 2. She will be remembered for her many contributions to the community and to Arizona State University. “Elva Coor was a warm, wise and generous business and community leader who saw need and took action to become a catalyst for enduring change at ASU and in our state,” ASU President Michael Crow said. Together with her husband, former ASU President Lattie F. Coor Jr., Elva donated to several ASU units and programs and was instrumental in introducing ASU to donors through community enrichment programs. In addition, the ASU School of Public Affairs is home to the Coor Leadership Collection and has a chair position in the Coors’ name. • “In the third grade, I would always watch things about infectious diseases, like Mystery Diagnosis. So I always knew I was interested in biology. Now, I'm looking at pursuing a career as an immunologist. I'm currently deciding whether or not I want to go down the medical clinical route or go down that research route. Outside of classes, I work in a research lab studying oncolytic biotherapy.” Kameron Cochrane is double majoring in microbiology and chemistry. His ambitious pursuit of higher education has been supported by the Edward and Linda Birge Scholarship, which you can contribute to here: https://ow.ly/HB1H50Shxa5 Thank you to the Birges for their generosity!

  • “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without donors, there wouldn’t be scholarships available to help students cultivate their skills and grow professionally. I hope that one day I will be able to pay it forward to future students who are facing financial struggles like I did.” Sydney Stephens is an ASU alumna with a bachelor’s degree in medical studies. She received the ASU Family Scholarship as well as several others. You can read more about the ASU Family Scholarship and support students like Stephens here: https://ow.ly/1x0e50S1jcP

  • First generation graduate Cindy Rogel Bahena has risen through the ranks at Intel since graduating from Arizona State University in 2021. Today, she’s a part of a small team creating tools to develop advanced semiconductor microchips. But it wasn’t always an easy journey for Rogel Bahena. She knew she wanted to be an engineer from a young age, but she didn’t have Latina engineers to look up to as role models. That changed when she arrived at ASU where she joined the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. • Arizona State University’s work in Hawai’i reflects the charter’s commitment to community, research and inclusion. Read on for more details about the opportunities donors have to support ASU programs in Hawai’i ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/g5QjeKgK 🏝️ Hawai’i partnerships/projects: From its progressive energy and climate policies to its engagement with Indigenous knowledge, Hawaiʻi remains a bright spot of hope for the planet. It is a critical place for ASU if the university is to provide global access to education that acknowledges Indigenous knowledge systems and sustainability principles. 🪸 The ʻĀkoʻakoʻa Program’s mission is to empower communities of West Hawaiʻi Island with the best available science to restore their interconnected relationship with their coral reefs. 🏫 With ASU Digital Prep, Kamehameha Schools and ASU entered a formal agreement to work together on research and innovation, long-distance learning, student enrollment and more.
