  • As a new membership year gets underway, we want to give our 2024-2025 Executive Committee a chance to tell you, in their own words, why they volunteer and what makes AWCI special to them. Say hello to AWCI Secretary Adam Navratil. How long has your company been a member of AWCI? My grandfather, the founder of J&B Acoustical, Inc., joined AWCI in 1963. How long have you been involved in the organization? I have been attending Conventions since I was a child with my parents in the early 80's. Interest peaked during my college years and I naturally transitioned to attending Conventions annually from 2000 forward. I initially got involved with the Education Committee soon thereafter and served as chair for 8 years. I served on the board of directors from 2015 to 2021. Why are you involved? And why do you volunteer? I believe that participating on a national level with such a great orginization can only make you and your company better at what you do. The act of giving time to something that I'm passionate about is a way for me to give back while also honing my skillset. What is the value of membership for you, the company, your employees? The value of membership for me comes from the lifelong friendships/relationships that are forged. These relationships are valuable resourses in a non-competition environment. Thought processes, experiences, and insight are shared for the betterment of all. Our employees will get to see new products and technologies from so many vendors and manufacturers in one location while being surrounded by like-minded construction professionals. The educational programs help foster employee thought process and growth when they return to work after an AWCI event. Say hello to AWCI Immediate Past President Travis Winsor. How long has your company been a member of AWCI? 38 years How long have you been involved in the organization? I have been involved with the AWCI in different capacities since 2013. Why are you involved? And why do you volunteer? I want to help make AWCI a more valued resource for its members. The networking and industry connections create value to all members and help further our industry, making each member company more successful in their area of expertise. What is the value of membership for you, the company, your employees? AWCI is a terrific resource for education and organizational support. With the challenges that arise in our industry as they do, AWCI becomes even more important through advice, employee development opportunities and technical knowledge. Why should others get involved in AWCI? AWCI has amazing programs such as the Emerging Leaders, Doing It Right and safety programs that can continue to thrive as the association grows. One of the biggest benefits of joining and being involved in the AWCI is the pool of knowledge to draw from. We can share best practices and continue to advance our companies and industry. • As the new president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Johnny Barnes has a full slate but he embraces the challenges and comes prepared with a wealth of industry experience. If there is one thing Barnes is passionate about, it’s mentoring the next generation. Barnes emphasizes the importance of recruiting young people into the industry, not just to help fill the growing void left as aging workers retire, but also to bring new ideas to the field. It is partly why he formed Gainesville, Florida– based TriCoast Building Group recently with his eldest daughter Corie Patton. • As a new membership year gets underway, we want to give our 2024-2025 Executive Committee a chance to tell you, in their own words, why they volunteer and what makes AWCI special to them. Here's what AWCI Treasurer Brian Allen had to say. How long has your company been a member of AWCI? 27 years How long have you been involved in the organization? 27 years Why are you involved? And why do you volunteer? I believe the AWCI represents the top tier of contractors in our industry. Iron sharpens iron. • As a new membership year gets underway, we want to give our 2024-2025 Executive Committee a chance to tell you, in their own words, why they volunteer and what makes AWCI special to them. Next up is AWCI Vice President Jeff Dreisewerd. How long has your company been a member of AWCI? Since 1994 How long have you been involved in the organization? 12 years Why are you involved? I was given the opportunity 12 years ago to attend a convention, and I really wanted to understand and learn about how other regions and companies operated in their areas. Also, I was surprised by the friendliness of the whole organization and its members. I wanted to get involved to grow personally and help our company grow. I want to give back to others who have invested a lot of time and money in my career, and I want to give back and hopefully help our industry stay as fresh and relevant as possible. What is the value of membership for you? The network of people, companies, suppliers and manufacturers, being involved with a peer group exchanging ideas and best practices to move our company/industry forward and access safety, technical information, educational programs and publications. It allows our company to stay fresh and aligned with the newest trends in the industry and, at times, showcase what we do as a company through some of the awards programs. Many employees participate in other committees throughout AWCI, giving them a chance to grow as individuals and set new paths/directions for their future. Why should others get involved in AWCI? To understand and educate themselves and their companies on the different ways that national businesses operate, networking with all attendees at events, be it manufacturers, contractors or suppliers, and taking advantage of all the educational and technical resources offered through the membership. • As a new membership year gets underway, we want to give our 2024-2025 Executive Committee a chance to tell you, in their own words, why they volunteer and what makes AWCI special to them. Today we'll start with AWCI President Johnny Barnes. How long have you been involved in AWCI? I have been involved in some capacity for at least the last 25 years. Why are you involved? One of the primary motivations is my genuine passion for the construction industry. There is something rewarding about taking a blank canvas and creating different spaces that heal, treat, educate or provide happiness to others with an aesthetically pleasing touch. By volunteering for AWCI, I have the opportunity to connect with individuals who are equally dedicated to advancing our industry's standards, knowledge and best practices but most importantly share lessons learned to help teach and mold the next generation of leaders to be better than my generation. What is the value of membership for you? Being part of the AWCI family opens doors to an extensive network of professionals and industry leaders, a front-row seat to the latest products and trends, an opportunity to expand your knowledge base, as well as gain exposure to different industry leaders from across the nation that have perspectives on approaches that differ from your own. Why should others get involved? If you’re interested in pursuing your passion, learning from industry peers and making impactful contributions while expanding your professional network, this organization is for you.
