Today we’re talking about declining vehicle prices consumers aren’t seeing. We also talk about a sub $20/mo EV lease, as well as Fisker’s clearance rack. Declining Vehicle Prices: The average price paid for new vehicles is set to drop for the first time since 2008, falling 3% year-over-year to about $45,000 in June. However, rising interest rates are keeping monthly payments high, with the average monthly car payment reaching a record $740, compared to $550 pre-pandemic. Dealer promotions and financial incentives now average 5% off the sticker price, compared to 10% pre-pandemic. John Patterson, owner of Hyundai, Kia, and Mazda dealerships in Southern California, notes a shift in buyer behavior as higher interest rates keep many consumers away from dealer lots despite improved vehicle availability. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eP4XkwMV Sub $20/Month EV Lease: A Nissan dealer in Colorado is offering a seemingly too-good-to-be-true lease deal on the Nissan Leaf S model, leveraging Colorado’s generous state electric vehicle tax credit, an NMAC credit, and a $1,000 Nissan EV cash rebate. Tynan’s Nissan Aurora in Aurora, CO, is advertising the lease at zero money down and only $19 per month. With fees included, the total monthly payment comes to $59. Over a 24-month lease, the cost would be just $1,850 plus minimal electricity costs. Initially, 15 units were advertised at this price, but now there are 60 available. Read more: https://lnkd.in/evMTuSJT Fisker’s Clearance Rack: Fisker, the bankrupt electric vehicle start-up, is seeking court permission to sell its remaining 3,300 vehicles at an 80% discount to American Leasing, which supplies vehicles to NYC Uber and Lyft drivers. Fisker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June after years of unprofitable operations. The proposed deal values each car at about $14,000, down from the original $70,000 price. Some vehicles are in good condition, while others need repairs and will be sold as-is. Fisker aims to sell 200 cars quickly to secure cash for payroll next month, but the deal's approval is not guaranteed. Concerns remain among creditors about Fisker's ability to pay debts and support current vehicle owners. Welcome to Wednesday as we cover the full restoration of CDK’s DMS. We also talk about the big surge in hybrid loyalty, as well as a major insurance ultimatum set by State Farm to the State of California. CDK's DMS Restoration: CDK Global has made significant progress in restoring its Dealer Management System (DMS) services, with nearly all dealer connections live ahead of schedule. Initially targeting July 3 or 4 for full restoration, CDK announced that most connections were operational as of July 2, following a June 19 ransomware attack affecting over 15,000 customers in North America. Despite the challenges, dealers like Todd Szott of Szott Auto Group have returned to smooth operations and even exceeded sales goals. However, CDK has not disclosed if sensitive customer information was compromised or commented on ransom payments. Multiple lawsuits have been filed alleging compromised private information and business harm. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e6tfAhz6 Surge in Hybrid Loyalty: Customer loyalty to hybrid vehicles hit a record high in the first quarter, while demand for electric vehicles (EVs) remained flat. S&P Global Mobility reports that 42% of hybrid owners returning to the market chose another hybrid. Conventional hybrid sales more than doubled, and plug-in hybrid sales rose by 59%. Hybrids made up about 11% of light-vehicle sales, a record high, compared to EVs at 7.2%. The lower cost of hybrids, with many priced under $30,000 compared to the average EV price of over $57,000, is a major driver of this trend. Hybrids offer an eco-friendly option without significantly altering consumers' lifestyles. The requested increases are 30% for homeowners, 36% for condo owners, and 52% for renters. Other insurers, like Allstate and Farmers Direct, have already limited coverage or left the California market due to rising wildfire risks. The approval process could take months, worsening the situation for Californians already facing rising property insurance costs or being dropped by insurers. Despite the crisis, State Farm remains financially strong with a net worth of $143.2 billion and a net income of $1.2 billion last year. Their 2024 Quality Study is out and revealing some interesting trends. 🤔 Swipe through for the full rankings, but here’s one of the biggest takeaways: EVs are having a bit of a meltdown with 266 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), compared to 180 PP100 for traditional cars.
