According to the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), cooking is the leading cause of house fires, accounting for 51% of all residential building fires and the majority of fire injuries. In GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Fire Awareness, you will firstly be enabled to prevent fires. But if an incident should occur, you will be prepared to evaluate a fire as either manageable or cause for evacuation. In an evacuation, you will understand the most effective process and how to ensure everyone is safely accounted for. If the incident is judged to be safe, you will be enabled to efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic handheld firefighting equipment. One basic firefighting tool that should be in all kitchens is the fire blanket. At Arcon you will use this tool along with several others on a live fire. Experiencing all the sensations in a controlled environment will give you the confidence to react calmly and quickly in an emergency. To register for GWO training, all participants must first obtain an ID with the Global Wind Industry Training Records Database. Training coordinators can also search for certified providers in this database and track participant records.

GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Working at Heights provides participants with experience using a variety of basic PPE to work safely at height and perform comprehensive basic rescue from height in the remote environment of a wind turbine. As stated in the GWO standard description, this course is not designed to test the participants’ capability and aptitude for working at height, i.e. It is not a test for fear of heights.
