  • Your whole 1st year could be wasted. So many architectural professionals start their first job in an architecture firm without a plan—it’s just a job, where you put in hours and receive a paycheck. Before you realize it, that first year is gone and you’re still doing the same thing, getting the same paycheck as when you started. But it doesn’t have to be that way. What if you had a guide, or manual for your first year? The Top 10 Actions for You to Take that could truly make your first year like lightning. Then give you step by step instructions for how to implement those 10 actions. Watch the next videos in this red series to get a glimpse of that process. Then stay tuned for the bonus at the end of the series when I offer you something really powerful…for free. Architects Accelerator is here for you with the step by step guidance to not just get you through the year but help you jumpstart your career with action!

  • Of all your transformations, this one is the most effective. . . Because it involves action. Nothing ever happens without action. . Transform your habits and behaviors by taking intentional action to improve your body, to improve your mind, to follow a role model, and get a coach. Keep people who are holding you back to “protect” you at a distance and associate with people who will push you toward your goals.

  • Most architects take years before they realize this happened. What if you could do it intentionally? . . All architects experience 3 main transformations. Inner transformation is the hardest to detect, but the most important. 2 key aspects of inner transformation can just evolve over a long period of time without trying, or you can take intentional actions for faster effective results. 1) Belief Busting - tackle your doubts and fears head on by challenging the core beliefs behind them. 2) Define the person you want to be and then intentionally start doing the things that person does; thinking the way that person thinks; being that person. #innertransformation #intentional #emergingprofessionals #architectsaccelerator

  • Getting bullied by consultants? . . Sometimes they forget they work for YOU. Without being authoritarian, you can get the 3 most important deliverables from your consultants: 1) Responsiveness - You can get them to respond to you by clearly setting expectations, regular communications, and trust building efforts. 2) Timeliness - They are really busy with many more projects than the number architects tend to manage, so get timeliness by clearly identifying deadlines (but earlier than your real deadline), checking in with them frequently on their progress, and friendly reminders of the due date. 3) Completeness - It's so frustrating to get drawings from consultants that contain the same errors or omissions you told them about previously, so have milestone document checks, study their drawings to be well informed of their scope and progress, and (again) collect their deliverables sooner than when you really need them. . You are the project leader, so take action to lead your consultants. . Put in the comments your experiences with consultants. I'd love to know how you've handled project engineers. . #architectleader #projectmanagement #emergingprofessionals #consultingengineers #architectsaccelerator https://lnkd.in/guh-hrnT

  • Most Architectural Project Leaders don't think of this. . . We're assigned a project. Someone else negotiated the fee. But now, that's what we have to work with. The fee is your project bank account. . 1) Time Worked. The cost of the amount of time it takes you and your team to complete the project. It's relatively unpredictable. 2) Expenses. This is the project money being paid to others; engineering consultants and non-reimbursable ("included") expenses. These should be know before the project starts, so they are completely predictable. 3) Profit. There is a great book recently released called "Profit First". Just thinking about that concept suggests profit should not be 3rd on the list, but 1st! Profit is what keeps your firm in business. The amount of profit should be determined by the firm profit plan and consider the type of project and client. #profitfirst #projectbudget #architecturalprojects #emergingprofessionals #architectsaccelerator https://lnkd.in/guh-hrnT

  • The 4 most common mistakes architects make on drawings... . . Count 'em down: 4) Masonry Anchors -- often forgotten 3) Rooftop Equipment Curb Flashing -- too often left to the engineers 2) Duct Clearance -- not enough space for all that stuff above the ceiling 1) Roof Drain Leaders -- the roof drains are there, but then what??? . There is no such thing as a perfect project. Things get missed. Get to know your project SO WELL that you begin to see what's NOT there. #projectmistakes #architectsdrawings #perfectionisamyth #architectsaccelerator https://lnkd.in/guh-hrnT

  • Is your team missing 1 of these 4 key strength areas? . . Look around you. The people with the strengths you need for your architectural project team are all probably right there sitting next to you. . Strength = Aquired Skills & Knowledge + Natural Talent . Executing - Organized, Sequential, Planned, Detailed Influencing - Holistic, Intuitive, Integrating, Synthesizing Strength Building - Interpersonal, Feeling-Based, Kinesthetic, Emotional Strategic Thinking - Logical, Analytical, Fact-Based, Quantitative .
