Fundraising, Event Planning, Social Media Content Creation and a little marketing for the Arc of Rensselaer County. 🩵

Our #ArcFest at The Arc of Rensselaer County will probably forever be one of the most satisfying moments of my career. I am constantly inspired by the people I work with and the people we support, so it meant more than anyone will ever know for me to freshen up a beloved event. In previous years this event was a dinner theater. My goals/vision were to expand it to include more of the talents from our community, lower ticket prices so more of our community could afford to attend, and for it to be a little more casual and laid back. I immediately envisioned festival vibes and I tried to incorporate that vision along with highlighting the beautiful garden at BCS and our fundraising goals of building gardens at some of our other locations. It was a big crazy vision and embracing new things is scary, but our community was so welcoming of it. Our staff is amazing and so many of them volunteered to help me make it a success, for which I am very grateful. Our staff at Brunswick Center Services made sure their garden was immaculate and they helped me set up, including assembling balloon arches and massive photo displays. They also helped give us a shuttle service so we could utilize their parking lot. Our 2 day habs worked hard to help people make amazing handmade goods that showed off their talents and even some business skills. They had tables selling their items and the proceeds went back into their activity funds so they can fund more of the amazing activities they do! And our food was provided by Duke's Comidas. Duke is one of our DSPs (direct support staff) and has recently started catering. I was so happy we could help support his amazing talents and his new venture. We also had a mobile bar, the Shasta Bar. It was BEAUTIFUL and added so much fun to the event. Highly recommend if anyone wants a fun insta-worthy add to their events. All of the pictures I have seen since were the best reward and made every minute worth it. Our attendance was also at an all time high. On a personal note my teenager was the facepainting volunteer and seeing her fall in love with the Arc that night just like I have will forever be a core memory for me. I can't wait for it to be even bigger next year. 🩵 I am on a mission for everyone in the capital region to see how amazing and talented the people at our Arc are! My role is truly minor compared to the amazing things they all do, but having one night seeing all of them have fun and let loose a little was the highlight of my journey here so far. I am so proud to be a part of the Arc Family now! 🩵 Thank you to our sponsors who helped pull off this event when I pitched this crazy idea: Stewart's Shops Careers Von's Garage Amsure Capital Energy Partners NY Capital Regional Pharmacy Services M&T Bank OneGroup The Bonadio Group Llc Callanan Industries, Inc Complete Network

  • Today Duke, one of our amazing Direct Support Professionals, spoke at the New York Disability Advocates Capital Rally about his passion for being a DSP despite it's financial challenges. We need the state to take a 3.2% COLA and a direct support wage enhancement seriously. Amazing DSPs like Duke shouldn't struggle to provide for their families. People with disabilities, like Matt, shouldn't be at risk for the heartbreak and care changes associated with losing their DSPs. By not providing these adjustments the state is turning a blind eye to the national DSP turnover rate of 50%. That means: ⚠ We lose great DSPs to other fields or burnout ⚠ 50% of the time Individuals with Disabilities experience loss and heartbreak by losing their DSPs ⚠ Interruptions to the continuity of care that allows individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential. a financial burden on agencies like ours due to the overtime needed, recruiting, and training needs to fill those gaps ⚠ Help us get our message to local lawmakers! We need to support our individuals and the people who support and take care of them! Please urge our lawmakers to invest in DSPs like Duke!
