August is National Breastfeeding Month, and our Cariño Home Visiting team is honored to support nursing parents and babies! According to the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force, "People who breastfeed/chestfeed are giving their babies the best nourishment possible—reducing their child's chances of allergies, ear infections, diabetes, and some cancers, just to name a few." The conference is scheduled for Monday, August 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Dr. Arnett is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at New Mexico State University. She will co-present a session with NMSU's Dr. David Ortiz titled "Supporting Minoritized and First-Generation Students during their College Journeys: A Discussion of Research and Experiences by NMSU Sociologists." We are excited to introduce you to Marianna Eanone, one of our Cariño Home Visiting Program Supervisors! Marianna has been with Cariño Home Visiting for a little over a year and holds her Bachelor’s in Psychology from American University and her Master’s in Health Care Administration from Grand Canyon University. She is passionate about advocating for maternal health and was recently endorsed in Infant Mental Health. Marianna said, "I feel home visiting makes a difference due to the wide range of support we give to families. It’s not only focused on the child but incorporates mothers, fathers, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, or any person taking care of a child. Home Visiting helps families have all the tools and resources they need to be successful as a family and as individual caregivers, while also helping their child thrive and be prepared for the transition to school."
