Updates

  • It is one of AFT's favorite times of the year! Through the annual Platinum Pipe Award, AFT gets to recognize engineers who use AFT software. We’re extremely proud of all the great work engineers are doing with AFT software, but once you begin your own endeavors with the software, we rarely learn how you’re using the software effectively. This is your chance to showcase and take pride in your projects with AFT software. Win $500 for you and a large software credit for your company. Entering your project is very simple: 1. Download and complete the entry form 2. Email the form, model, and a high-level summary Learn more here: https://bit.ly/2nxapJs

  • Jacob Jeong has joined Applied Flow Technology as an Applications Engineer. Originally from Colorado Springs, Jacob graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a minor in engineering management. In his role, Jacob will provide engineering support to AFT customers around the world to help troubleshoot their flow analysis models. He will also play a pivotal role in the training and education of AFT users to help them model reliable and efficient piping systems using AFT’s suite of software products. When Jacob is not on engineer duty, he enjoys rock climbing, music, crocheting, and watching the Denver Broncos lose every week (Go Broncos!). A fun fact about Jacob: his father was going to name him Stanley after the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2001, but thankfully his mom objected. AFT is excited to have Jacob as a part of our team. Welcome aboard Jacob!

  • AFT Modeling Tips Blog: Heat it Up: Link Multiple Fluids and Heat Exchangers. For incompressible #hydraulicanalysis, an easy way to quantify basic to advanced modeling is the presence and scope of #heattransfer. Basic models are isothermal, where the temperature of the working fluid doesn't change. This makes calculations simpler as the density won't be altered. The intermediate level would be to introduce heat transfer to a single fluid. One of the most advanced features in #AFTFathom is enabling heat transfer with multiple working fluids in the model. • Stantec Resourcenet India was tasked with analyzing the estimated pump head, normal operating line velocities, and pressure analysis for a new canola oil processing system. The system consists of multiple pumps, atmospheric tanks, vacuum tanks, hydrodynamic reactors, heat exchangers, centrifugal separators, bleaching and basket filters, strainers, mixers, and control valves. See how the team used #AFTFathom to obtain results that were used to identify appropriate pumps for the final system which now refines approximately 100 m3 (26,000 gallons) of canola oil per hour.
