𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗥𝟭𝟮.𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗙𝗛 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮 The University of Fort Hare (UFH) and AngloGold Ashanti marked a significant milestone today with the launch of the AngloGold Ashanti Research Chair in Dairy Science & Technology at UFH’s Faculty of Science & Agriculture. This partnership was made possible by a generous endowment of R12.5 million from AngloGold Ashanti, one of the largest private sector investments in research at an Eastern Cape university. It is also the first time that Fort Hare has launched a research chair endowed by a listed company with a global footprint. The joint venture between the global mining company and this great African University aims to revolutionize knowledge production by advancing research, development, and innovation in dairy science and technology while fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth across the province and South Africa. For more than 20 years, Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has been a leader in responsible mining. They believe that success goes beyond resources - it's about building a thriving community. That's where the annual GGM Kili Challenge comes in. This gruelling climb addresses critical social issues in Tanzania. Funds raised support projects such as the Moyo wa Huruma Orphanage Centre. A recent visit by GGML staff highlighted the positive impact. They planted trees for a sustainable future and took part in fitness activities to promote health and community spirit. The challenge goes beyond a climb. It encourages employee engagement and collaboration with NGOs and government to tackle issues such as HIV/AIDS. This innovative approach is inspiring others in the mining industry. The upcoming Challenge, which starts on 14 July 2024, represents GGML's ongoing commitment. The company is pleased to recognise the collective, relentless commitment and sustained efforts demonstrated by the team at the company’s Siguiri Gold Mine for continuously improving safety management systems and practices. Siguiri’s outstanding achievements include: ·      No occupational fatalities recorded in the last 13 years. ·      No injuries recorded in 2023. ·      Reduction in the number of High Potential Incidents. At AngloGold Ashanti safey is a one of our key values and we put safety first, before anything else. Last year, saw improvements in all our safety metrics due to the hard work and commitment of every single person working at the company. We recognize that we can never be complacent and must continue working every day to ensure our operations are as safe as possible. Our teams remain committed to reaching our ultimate goal of zero harm at every one of our sites. The Zero Harm Award recognizes those across AngloGold Ashanti who have taken proactive and innovative measures to eliminate or control safety hazards. The Kili Challenge 2024 Adventure Awaits 🗻🚴 As AngloGold Ashanti’s Lorraine Perumaul, an Environmental Specialist in our Johannesburg office, continues her preparation for the GGML Kilimanjaro Challenge we asked her about her training for the climb. -Tell us why you want to take on this challenge? Ever since I was a young girl, my heart has been captivated by the majesty of mountains. In their presence, I find profound peace and tranquillity, losing myself in their serene beauty and silence. The idea of conquering Kilimanjaro has lingered in my mind since my days at AGA's Vaal Reefs operations. I've always cherished the thought of embarking on such an adventure, and now, with just weeks to go, the opportunity is finally on the horizon. I clearly recall flying over the peak last July, imagining the day when I would stand on Africa’s roof top. -What does your training involve? I dedicate at least eight hours per week to my training regimen. During a typical gym session, I allocate one hour to stairwork, another hour to strength and resistance training, and cap it off with 30 minutes of swimming. On days when I don't hit the gym, I opt for road running to keep up with my fitness routine. -What is your fitness background? I've embraced the road as my terrain, finding deep satisfaction in covering long distances. It's been an integral part of my lifestyle for the past seven years. I constantly push myself both mentally and physically, striving to exceed my limits and grow. -What do you expect the hardest part of the challenge will be? Certainly, altitude sickness, nearing the summit where the air is thinner and there is less oxygen to breathe.
