We're all feeling the increased cost of living, but it's hitting low-income families the hardest. Did you know that someone earning minimum wage in Missouri has to work 55 hours a week to afford a modest, one-bedroom rental? In Kansas City and beyond, the cost of housing is becoming out of reach. We see this firsthand from the women and children who come to Amethyst Place without stable housing. The same goes for the people who call our office trying to get a spot on our waitlist. This pressing community need motivated our housing expansion project. We'll add 32 units of affordable housing by the end of the year. Sadly, that still won't be enough to fill the gap of 64,000 units of affordable housing needed in Kansas City. Want to learn more about affordable housing needs in Missouri? After growing up with a mother impacted by substance use, Sam began down that same path as a teen. Now a decade later, she has completely transformed her life -- giving her daughter Uriah a much different childhood. Many community partners have played a part in Sam's journey, including Local Investment Commission's LINCWorks program. They help families like Sam's access state aide while they find meaningful work. They recently featured her story at https://lnkd.in/gi2rBGCR.

🏕️☀️The AP Super Kids (and teens) headed off to Camp Wildwood this week for an unforgettable time with friends in nature! This annual tradition continues to grow. This year, we almost tripled our group size, with 19 AP kids (past and present) attending. We hope they are making the best memories. Amethyst place women proudly demonstrate every day that recovery is possible. 95% of them maintained or re-engaged in recovery in 2023. In comparison, the average recovery rate for the US population is between 40 to 60%. Their success is supported by the sense of connection on our campus, the lived expertise of our peer staff, and the multitude of recovery pathways supported.
