📰 Great new op-ed from Kent Chandler and Devin Hartman in Utility Dive! "Order 1920, like broader transmission policy, has become unnecessarily politicized. Concerns over a renewables side-agenda and harm to states’ rights and consumers have ignited inaccurate controversy. But new generation and consumers are not in a zero sum game." "Overall, proper implementation of Order 1920 and enacting complementary reforms are the keys to benefiting consumers. And states play a crucial role in realizing this vision. Their customers are depending on it." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eny_AbVB

Focused on the need to expand, integrate, and modernize the North American high-voltage electric grid
About us
Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) is the only non-profit broad-based public interest advocacy coalition focused on the need to expand, integrate, and modernize the North American high-voltage grid. Expanded high-voltage transmission will make America’s electric grid more affordable, reliable, and sustainable and allow America to tap all economic energy resources, overcome system management challenges, and create thousands of well-compensated jobs. But an insular, outdated and often short-sighted regional transmission planning and permitting system stands in the way of achieving those goals. ACEG brings together the diverse support for an expanded and modernized grid from business, labor, consumer and environmental groups, and other transmission supporters to educate policymakers and key opinion leaders to support policy which recognizes the benefits of a robust transmission grid. ACEG is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Appreciate this leadership by two companies that support Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG): Google and NV Energy. I'm excited to learn more about the Clean Transition Tariff and how new customers will contract for clean resources.
⚡Today Google announced a new, first-of-its-kind partnership with NV Energy, which can be replicated by customers and their utilities across the United States to help meet electricity demand cleanly and reliably. To accelerate the clean energy transition, we need new business models and partnership structures that unlock reliable, clean capacity solutions for customers while maximizing benefits to the grids where they operate. With this new pathway for utilities and customers to work together to expand clean energy capacity, we’re one step closer to enabling a thriving, carbon-free economy for everyone. Learn more about the partnership and check out how the new model works ⬇️

"We have this growth, we have this decarbonization movement. What ties all of this together is the transmission system – the grid – and transmission lines ... are really the highways of the energy system. We need them to move clean energy around where we need it, when we need it." "The problem is these transmission lines are very difficult and time-consuming to permit under the current rules."
Transmission is important, and siting and permitting reform is essential to making it happen. A true story ...

Spot on! Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) agrees that an essential component of meeting new energy needs is to "Promote Regional Integration and More Interconnected Grids." Well done!
ICYMI, Tom Hassenboehler, on behalf of the Electricity Customer Alliance, testified earlier today before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce about meeting the energy needs of America's digital future. Read his opening statement below: https://lnkd.in/exxHyMFQ

Today, Grid Strategies LLC Rob Gramlich moderated a panel in the Senate Budget Committee Room with Exelon's Colette Honorable, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)'s Jim Robb, and Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA)'s Rich Powell about the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's recent final rules – Orders No. 1920 and 1977. “We have, and will continue to, experience tremendous load growth in the coming years," said Colette Honorable. "We need transmission desperately, which means we have to begin focusing on that intently now," she later said. "There are a number of areas in the country where expanding transmission would have very significant reliability benefits, particularly during extreme weather conditions. We’re big believers in transmission," said Jim Robb. "Transmission is not in and of itself a silver bullet … but what transmission can do is move kilowatt-hours from areas that have excess to areas that don’t." "New electricity demand growth is happening from every major sector of our economy," said Rich Powell. "It should be seen as a tragedy that we cannot guarantee the most simple thing, which is access to electricity," he later said.

Today, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) and Grid Strategies LLC released the report “Transmission Planning for PJM’s Future Load and Generation: Version 1.” With increased demand from electrification, data centers, and onshore manufacturing, as well as a higher frequency of extreme weather events, we need to ensure that the grid can handle the needs of the future. This report highlights several recommendations of best practices that PJM can adopt to further progress its long-term transmission planning, though these parameters could be used in any planning region. Compared to the existing planning process, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's final regional planning and cost allocation rule "gives state utility regulators an 'unprecedented role' in transmission planning and determining how they want to share transmission costs," says a new Utility Dive article. "The rule puts states in 'the driver’s seat' for deciding key issues like cost allocation compared to being just a stakeholder in current transmission planning processes, according to [ACEG Director Christina] Hayes." https://lnkd.in/e5CZsY22
