Metaphors are a common and essential part of everyday language, but tools to account for them in communications are scarce. A Journal of Marketing Research study devises a new textual analysis method to glean insights from metaphors. In the study, researchers Ignacio Luri, Hope Jensen Schau, and Bikram Ghosh demonstrate a novel methodology termed "metaphor-enabled marketplace sentiment analysis" (MEMSA), showing how it can leverage the sentiment-conveying potential of metaphors to uncover a deeper, more contextual understanding of market discourse.
